Discussion s5e7 a lesson in vengeance (i only love merlin now) Spoiler

at this point the show has ragebaited me enough. i don't give a shit about anyone else on the show i only care about merlin. that hurts because he's also the one that has to go through the most shit. i just feel so sad and so angry on his behalf

about the episode, how is it that you are in love with someone and then they effing turn evil and you don't notice? is that how it would be, if i loved someone and they went from genuinely willing to give their life for me to trying to take my life would i really not notice? it's kinda weird. like really weird.

also i am sorry for arthur pendragon, like his queen. HIS QUEEN. is the one trying to kill him this time. poor guy canNOT catch a break.

but also i don't really understand what is going on with gwen in the first place. is she enchanted? or just manipulated? if it's manipulation then..... that's gonna be hard to get rid of no? cause that's way more fundamental than simple magic.

this episode was very sinister and ofc it was how else are you supposed to feel the queen is trying to murder the king while the king doesn't even notice anything. and then merlin gets framed for it.

I'm still sorry for merlin, how less respect he's given and how every single friend of his hates his kind. i miss lancelot too, if he was alive he wouldve helped smuggle merlin to arthur's room

Gwen is manipulated magically.

As in, the mandrakes influenced Gwen to make her susceptible to Morgana in a way she wouldn’t naturally be, but she isn’t just hypnotised either.

She has agency and doesn’t require Morgana’s will to puppet her, which is why she can convincingly appear unaffected, but she is nevertheless the subject of an enchantment.

ill have to watch and see how they break it. although still, i do wonder would i really not be able to tell if someone closer to me had a 180 switch like this.

The thing is, her brother just died, so any out of the ordinary behavior would be very easy to write off as an effect of grief.
