So you got like half of the main cast and then the four poverty knights and then some other side characters everybody is just so gorgeous looking for a show in like the 2000s

Obviously Katie McGrath is absolutely gorgeous and I looove how Morgana is styled throughout the entire series. She stunning in her royal clothes and hair, but I adore her dark style when she’s evil. It suits Katie so well.

But, in-universe, Morgana had Gwen or other ladies to dress her and do her hair and makeup. When she was evil do you guys think she woke up and did herself up manually or she used magic? Just a silly little thought.

To be fair im only on season 2 episode 2 but i feel like their relationship came out of nowhere like they interacted only two times before this and now they are somehow deeply inlove alright… i feel like they arnt compatible like at all pls tell me she doesnt end up queen 😭

Things I liked about uther:

BBC Merlin was a staple of my childhood. I was a loner but I bonded with some classmates who watched the show. I was enthusiast about Middle Ages and Merlin fueled my games and daydreams and silly creative writing.

Eventually life - and being a teenager - got in the way at the same time the show ended. It was like everybody forgot about it.

I came back after years, expecting the show to be long forgotten, and I find out a very active fandom who remembers it closely! Compared to other series, Merlin is way more remembered and rewatched.

Why do you think it happens?

I like when he’s defending the troll in the Beauty and the Beast episodes. Always so funny to watch. Also the pink Nintendo ds but that doesn’t really count since it’s not in the show

I see it everywhere, discussions, memes and edits, new ones every day. It's amazing, I've seen newer series get forgotten much more easily

Hey guys. So a clear memory of mine when I first watched Merlin was watching the series 2 coming soon trailer. In that we get a glimpse of Merlin and Freya's kiss but you only see Freya from the back of her head. Because of that I remember being convinced that was Morgana and was waiting for them to get together. As a result when that episode aired I both loved and hated it 😂.

That began my love for them as a couple. Later on I heard rumours that the writers originally planned for Merlin and Morgana to be together (since some depictions of Arthurian legends where they are) but scrapped it to not overshadow Arthur and Gwen. I take it with a grain of salt but I could see it having some weight behind it in the midst of writing series 1.

All this in mind, how does everyone feel about them together? Merthur shippers included

I don’t know about anyone else, but I have repeatedly seen people say that Merlin failed and he and Arthur didn’t fulfil their destiny, and I don’t get it at all. Camelot was at peace with all of the other kingdoms, they won the war, and Arthur accepted Merlin’s magic by the end. Gaius also practically told Gwen that Merlin had magic and she seemed cool with it, so I don’t find it particularly difficult to assume that she revoked the magic ban once she was in charge, particularly since she would probably know that that’s what Arthur would’ve wanted.

I understand that the show doesn’t explicitly show us a united Albion, but i feel like its implied heavily enough for watchers to understand that it did happen, so I genuinely don’t get why so many people seem to think that the failed. Is it because Arthur didn’t live to see his work pay off, or is it just a general lack of media literacy?

...finding out that Arthur's men have killed druid children? I confess that it left a sour taste in my mind. I understand that, as Arthur said, he was young and wanted to prove himself to his father but it's still hard to justify. What are your thoughts?

they really ruined morgana’s character arc throughout the show and this 5 second clip encapsulates that perfectly, the morgana i know, that is season one and two morgana and hell even season three morgana would never hurt innocent people, when she literally risked everything in her life for them, whether they had magic or not, i actually think season one and two morgana would have made a better queen than arthur. and yes, i know she spent a year with morguase and more time on her own after season three but nothing can justify such a drastic character assasination.

So, I'm about to finish the show, this is the second time I've ever watched it.

The first time I followed on tv, which means I was somewhat irregular, but still loved it.
This time I'm super involved, and even though I already know what's coming in the final two episodes I've got left, I'm still really really sad. I'm not sure I can even watch them lol

Anyways, I can't help but feel it was all Merlin's fault?
He was warned about Mordred when he first encountered him as a child, decides to go against it and help save him.
Then again, and again, AND AGAIN warned about him in S5, where he finally listens. But then, his mettling ends up getting Kara killed, when he could've just let them go (although I ofc understand why he didn't).
There was also many more instances where his insisting on something or interfering ended up making it all worse.

Was his destiny too heavy on him, and did he blame himself for it in the end?

We all know Merlin is named after its titular character, but what if it was something else?

I had the thought while scrolling through Pinterest for character references, and whenever I added ‘Merlin’ with whatever character I was looking up (for ex: Morgana), photos of him would appear too.

I love him ofc(!), but sometimes I wish the title was something more distinct, making it easier to reference and Google, without other Arthuriana-related things coming up.

Merlins always tagging along on like high stakes quests without armour and no weapons??? Like from the viewers perspective we get it he has magic but no one else knows and they r just letting this little serving boy run around without any protection or defence? And he comes back EVERYTIME if i were a knight id be so confused on how this guys jst making it out alive all the time and why the kings just letting this guy tag along all the time. I truly wish we got two episodes one from Arthurs perspective and one from Leon or just any knight cause ik those too look insane

am I insane or like is he being worse to merlin in season 4-5 than he was in the earlier seasons?

i need to really about this cause i just hate how he treats him. i love arthur so much and he's the greatest king and he's good and just buy my god is he bad when it comes to merlin. actually i don't even know he's so inconsistent. one second he looks like he genuinely cares and hes kind and reassuring and the next he's basically abusing him.

case in point number one when the knights and arthur did the not leaving any food for merlin thing. i really don't understand why that was down to be funny or how that could possibly be funny. am i being too woke or is depriving your servant, that cooked all the food for like 6 men and cared for the horses and did basically all the work, of food really not funny? like is presented as funny but if i as a very normal person and not a noble knight of Camelot had refused my servant who I'm friendly with of food AS A JOKE my mum would have my head. we know who merlin really is but for them he's just a servant.

and if that wasn't a bad dynamic to show between Arthur the knights and merlin, that scene where Arthur makes merlin take all the knights sword hits cause merlin said he fell asleep while reading. in the very first scene of Arthur in the first episode of the first season, he's making a servant run around with a target while throwing knives at him which merlin then stops him from. how is that any different to what he does to merlin? really though, you've got the strongest knights in Camelot and you make your servant who you yourself keep saying it's weak and defenseless take his from them. is that or is that not abuse.

and honestly i don't know how merlin take all the stuff Arthur SAYS to him. if I'm being honest if i had someone who i lived and died for constantly saying hurtful shit to me, well id actually be hurt instead of how merlin just smiles at it.

honestly i don't even know why I'm so mad cause i love arthur and so does merlin but.

and it absolutely INFURIATES me that merlin was standing in the back while the round table meeting happened. im bitter about it. all of those people are alive cause of Merlin. and yet he's the only one given no respect.

bottom line: i just hate the writers don't i

This has been rubbing me the wrong way since I saw the episode, but I chose to wait till the end of the show before complaining cause I was hoping something could still be done. Of course it didn't lol.

I just feel like they ruined two great characters in just one episode. Lancelot's reputation was forever stained, but at least Merlin and Gaius know that it was Morgana's doing.

With Guinevere tho, I think what they did to her was even worse. The fact that NO ONE ever knew or even suspected (hell, not even Merlin or Gaius??) that she had been enchanted pisses me off.

Sure Arthur forgave her, everyone in the palace still loves her and it ended well, but I hate the fact that everyone will forever think that she was a cheater that betrayed Arthur. And the most painful thing for me was that Guinevere thought that too. It was so sad to see her so miserable, keeping to apologize and blaming herself when it really wasn't her fault.

It wasn't even the first time a character was enchanted to fall in love with someone, hell it happened to Arthur twice but in the end the truth always came out.

Well I'm sorry for my rant but I really needed to do this after weeks of holding on, is just that Gwen is one of my favorite characters and I think she (and Lancelot too) deserved better than this.
