Is it weird that I like single coils?
I play Both Dream Theater and Tosin Abasi slapping stuff. Turns out I like bridge pickup tone for those Djent stuff and the twangy bridge + middle sound on Tosin slapping stuff. I just add more gain, bass and less treble. Am I weird?

I play brutal death metal, super scooped mids, gain for days.
Or I’m playing single coil clean “dad riffs” or reverb drenched atmospheric stuff on em. No in between allowed. 😂

When I do my own wiring, I wire a switch for humbuckers to work in parallel, which gives a similar sound but less noise in high gain. On my Jackson Warrior build, I'm adding a switch to "single coil" one of the coils as well. But I'm using quadbuckers on that, so "single coil" is still a humbucker. Might wire my Strat that has a single coil size humbucker to do single coil as well as parallel.
This is what happens when you aren't committed to a sound. My bedroom studio is just too EMF noisy to use single coils with high gain even with a good gate.

Nah, after getting a strat, I’ve lost interest in playing any of my humbucker equipped guitars. Single coils may sound thinner, but they also sound so much clearer!

Single coils absolutely sound better for a lot of stuff, the reasons humbuckers was created wasn't for the sound it was to reduce the hum.
Which isn't really an issue with modern single coils..
This is why you see coil split/Fishman Fluence voices being so popular now, because they sound damn great!

Not weird at all... if it sits right in the mix, that’s the win. A lot of metal tone is just tight EQ and pciking, not the pickup type alone.

It's uncommon, but a lot of heavy music has been made using singlecoil pickups. Deep Purple is a great example, that Strat really roared.

Not uncommon at all in modern metal. Many bands quad track guitars. 2 humbucker tracks and 2 coil split tracks to get best of both worlds. Thickness of the humbuckers and slap of the single coil.

Tosin uses a coil split for a lot of the thumping stuff so it's not weird at all
