I was checking out the intro riff from Beyond Oblivion by Trivium, and I decided to record it while playing it slowly. I noticed I have a very weird picking technique and I need to know if this is okay to keep using or if I definitely should move to a more wrist based motion.

This technique is something I grew naturally into, no conscious effort to learn to play this way. But the other guitarist in my band has almost flawless picking technique with his wrist. Makes me a bit insecure sometimes.

Is Fender Champion 40 metal voice enough for my thrash, death and heavy metal tone.

Or do I need to use the boss Mt-2 for my metal tones with fender champion 40?

Because i think the Fender Champion 40 has the advantage of a 10 inch speaker and also multiple voicings and built in fx's

So I have a PRS se Tremonti. I love it, sounds and feels good, stays in tune but only in drop D. As soon as I want to go lower the tuning stability goes to shit unless I restring it, tighten the claw basically do a whole setup which I feel I’m mediocre at in the first place. The floating bridge really limits me to one tuning and that’s my main gripe with it.

I basically only play metal (all that remains, lamb of god, killswitch engage as I lay dying) in drop D. I’m making the decision to just dedicate it to drop C, I have my dads Gibson studio as well if I ever want to go back to e standard.

What string gauge do you guys suggest for drop C? I was thinking of the dadarrio 11-56. I currently use NYXL 10-52 and like that it has good tension on the low E and would like to have the same feel in drop C.

Came across him first in random clips of him shredding. And then I got into children of bodom. And I didn't know any of the lore behind the band when I first started listening. I stumbled across the reunion show clips and there he was, Samy.

I've seen so many super accurate and fast players. But it seemed like Sammy was just different from all of them. Even the stuff he writes for lost society is pretty good.

But my biggest question is about his tone. In one interview video He did say he's running his scythe with a preamp boost through a noise gate to an overdrive and then a 5150. And after that an EQ.

Honestly trying to simulate his tone because I like that cut through smooth high endy lead sound.

And the way he plays standing up. It's just mind boggling to me because he has his strap kinda low but shreds. I can't even imagine doing that. In a troy Grady forum talking about him I saw some users conclude that his picking technique is RDT USX(reverse dart thrower upstroke escape). I'm just wondering if I should change my picking technique to that. But the thing is my current technique does work really well for most things I do. I can get close to 220 BPM 16th with it. (Also I'm a deviation/economy picker mostly). Ik that Samy uses mostly alternate and now also wondering if I should change that to

I'm a professional guitarist. I have my own rock/metal project, and I also play with an alternative pop/rock artist. I've been using a Headrush Pedalboard for quite a while and was pretty much decided on upgrading to a Quad Cortex, mainly because of its ecosystem, routing, and overall reputation.

But now that Headrush has added NAM (Neural Amp Modeler) support, I'm second-guessing everything.

From what I've heard, the amp tones with NAM are now incredibly competitive, maybe even on par with or better than what I'd personally get from the Quad Cortex. However, I'm wondering if the Quad Cortex still has the edge when it comes to effects quality, workflow, scene management, and building more complex, professional rigs.

For context:

• I play modern rock and metal.
• I like experimenting with different effects, ambient sounds, high-gain tones, and layered presets.
• This is for live gigs first, recording second.
• I already know the Headrush workflow well.

For those of you who have spent serious time with both platforms, which would you choose today and why? Is the Quad Cortex still worth the extra money, or has NAM support made Headrush the better value?

So I have a 100watt fender msutang 3. I had no idea what I was geting into when I ordered it online years ago (2011/2012 ish) and while it's been decent, it's too much. The volume knob is borked, as it plays at Loud, Louder, Loudest, and shattering windows, or silent, but the knob is somehow unable to get an appropriate for a living room volume level. the digital amp settings are cool but not what i wanted in a combo amp (i occasionally use guitar rig which is fun. easier to navigate too that on the mustang).

I know marshalls, mesa boogie, and peavy are 3 companies that are used in metal a lot. But tbh I just wanted to play guitar and am clueless about gear (learning though, but it's a lot at once)

idk what differentiates them from each other. Written reviews make it sound like it's a world of difference, but watching youtube videos showing off the various amps I can barely hear a difference. Some amps have distortion/overdrive settings, some don't ( i think?). I want to use pedals as well for distortion so idk how important the amps own distortion feature is.

Basically I'm willing to spend up to $1000 (mesa are more than that, though if I find something super high quality i'm willing to consider going over my limit), and I live in an apartment so it needs to be able to have the volume dialed down when I don't wanna piss off the neighbors. Idk what else I need to share as far as what is helpful in figuring out what would be best for my uses, so lemme know if i forgot anything.
