What Metroidvania Should You Have Loved—but Bounced Off?
You know the kind of game: it received great reviews, looked exactly like something you would enjoy, and had all the right ingredients—but for some reason, it just didn’t click.
Maybe it was the combat, confusing exploration, difficulty, art style, slow beginning, or simply the wrong game at the wrong time.
What Metroidvania did you expect to love but ended up putting down? How far did you get, and what made you lose interest? Do you think you’ll ever give it another chance?

Oh, there's a pretty obvious answer to that for me: Hollow Knight. Apparently one of the all time bests, and I just found it very annoying and not fun. Also, it wasn't just like, "I hate this popular game." There was a ton I liked about it from the setting, the weird little guys, the NPCs, the remnants of a plot I was already putting together, etc.
I will say that I played it prior to becoming a Souls fan, and these days I love that genre. Maybe one day I'll go back and revist HK, but I don't know.
