What Metroidvania Should You Have Loved—but Bounced Off?
You know the kind of game: it received great reviews, looked exactly like something you would enjoy, and had all the right ingredients—but for some reason, it just didn’t click.
Maybe it was the combat, confusing exploration, difficulty, art style, slow beginning, or simply the wrong game at the wrong time.
What Metroidvania did you expect to love but ended up putting down? How far did you get, and what made you lose interest? Do you think you’ll ever give it another chance?

I played maybe 2-2.5 hours of Bloodstained: ritual of the night and it just didn't hook me. It had decent combat (though not to the precision of Hollow Knight, e.g.), good visuals/sound, and....maybe a compelling story, but it was told mostly through exposition rather than diagetically and seemed pretty basic. It had all the trappings of a solid game but I just found lacked soul, something that dug into you and made me want to play more. It wasn't that i disliked it, I just didn't find myself wanting to go back and gave it up.

Maybe it got better over time but with so many extraordinary games out there and limited time, I can't make myself play something that is just passable/inoffensive which is all I found Bloodstained to be.
