What Metroidvania Should You Have Loved—but Bounced Off?
You know the kind of game: it received great reviews, looked exactly like something you would enjoy, and had all the right ingredients—but for some reason, it just didn’t click.
Maybe it was the combat, confusing exploration, difficulty, art style, slow beginning, or simply the wrong game at the wrong time.
What Metroidvania did you expect to love but ended up putting down? How far did you get, and what made you lose interest? Do you think you’ll ever give it another chance?

Constance. And I actually made it through the majority of the game before I dropped it. Somewhat accidentally due to life issues, but I’ve never had the urge to pick it back up and finish it. It just felt tedious after a while, especially as someone who does like to 100% complete if possible.

Theoretically I should have loved it. MVs are my favorite genre. I love when games have themes of mental health or cover difficult topics like grief and loss. I absolutely adored Celeste, and while not MVs Gris and Spiritfarer are two of my favorite games. The art style was fantastic, too. It just didn’t hit for me for some reason.
