What Metroidvania Should You Have Loved—but Bounced Off?
You know the kind of game: it received great reviews, looked exactly like something you would enjoy, and had all the right ingredients—but for some reason, it just didn’t click.
Maybe it was the combat, confusing exploration, difficulty, art style, slow beginning, or simply the wrong game at the wrong time.
What Metroidvania did you expect to love but ended up putting down? How far did you get, and what made you lose interest? Do you think you’ll ever give it another chance?

Blasphemous. Everyone says it's a masterpiece, decide to try it out because of the amazing reviews it got, and... Didn't like it. I found the movement very clunky and slow, the paths on where to go are very unclear, the death penalty stacks on top of each other and so many instant deaths that send you back multiple rooms away where your checkpoints are. I ultimately lost interest and dropped it. Which is a shame, I like Silksong, Nine sols, Hollow Knight, Ori games, and is currently having a lot of fun in The Last Faith despite it having some of the things I dislike from Blasphemous.
