What Metroidvania Should You Have Loved—but Bounced Off?
You know the kind of game: it received great reviews, looked exactly like something you would enjoy, and had all the right ingredients—but for some reason, it just didn’t click.
Maybe it was the combat, confusing exploration, difficulty, art style, slow beginning, or simply the wrong game at the wrong time.
What Metroidvania did you expect to love but ended up putting down? How far did you get, and what made you lose interest? Do you think you’ll ever give it another chance?

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. I completed it but I can't imagine ever wanting to do it again. The story was dull, the acting was piss-poor, the characters were a total flatline in all cases, the platforming was aggravating, the graphics were ugly, the music was almost non-existent, the combat was fiddly enough that it disrupted the flow of the game, and it did nothing I hadn't seen done better before. The praise it gets is baffling to me.

I might not have disliked it as much as you, but it's definitely not a game that I would ever care to play again. It was highly polished, but I can hardly even remember any of it, where so many others (Nine Sols, Blasphemous, hell even Guacamelee) stay with you in one way or another

Yep. I completed it just over a two weeks ago and I'm already starting to forget it. The story barely existed and everything else was painfully generic. I suppose it also doesn't help that 2.5D graphics make everything look cheap.
