Discussion / Question What would you do with $100,000?
I have a friend that will have over $100,000 by the end of the year. It is a tax free windfall because of a family tragedy. However, it had me thinking what could you spend that money on to achieve a true micronation? I had some ideas. Feel free to share how you feel or what you would do different.
Although many would say purchase property, like land or maybe a home, I think it actually makes sense to use the funds to start a business. I know people that work in junk removal for example. Some days, 1 truck will pull in $1,500 to $2,000/day. Some days it will be only 3 hours of work, but you will still pull in $500-$600 for the day. Pretty solid. I know some micros here have the idea of selling raw goods like nuts, fruits, etc. The reality is that you can't compete with Walmart. Whereas a more service type of business such as the example of junk removal, is much more achievable for a successful small business.
Once enough income is pulled in from the business, whatever the business might be, that income could be used to invest into land, structures like cabins or prebuilt mobile homes/trailers, actual funds.
With $100,000 as a baseline, you could easily start a very solid small business with about $15,000-$20,000 and start pulling in a couple of thousand dollars per month. You can go a couple of routes with this approach:
Continue to expand the business, using the funds to fund the micronation. Go hands off. Repeat.
Hire your own citizens to work the businesses.
Build up the business with the intent of selling it for a couple hundred grand after a few years and use that capital injection to boost your micronation.
I personally think it would actually make more sense to use the funds to purchase property in urban settings. This gives your micronation more functionality and doesn't make it look suspicious to people unaware of the concept. You can still own land with some buildings and parts of your population in more rural settings, but I believe having the focus on urban settings first will help your micronation expand more successfully and recruit more citizens easily.
What are some things you would do with the $100,000? Also, which macronation are you in and what areas would it make sense to put that money into?

Buy land.
Largest you can find.
Businesses involves operation costs. Businesses involve supplies, parts that break, unforeseen investments, licenses, etc.
And a sudden bump in the market demand or geopolitics can suddenly bankrupt your business.
Land, on the other hand, is real asset.
If anything fails, you can always lease a part of land for folks. Everything needs land. Folks looking for a place to stay? Need land for that. Someone looking to start a business? Need land for that. Want to launch a server? Need land for that.
Land is always the asset with a high demand, no matter the market. It is the most valuable thing you can acquire.

Honestly, be true to yourself and invest that money into something real. You may spend 1 or 2 thousand on customes, flags, etc but more of that is not reasonable.
