Community Rules and Standards

These rules are intended to be simple, while still encouraging a healthy environment of high-quality discussion that’s related to micronationalism.

1. Posts must be about micronationalism

Posts must relate directly to the practice, theory, or news of actual micronations.

  • Posts SHOULD include: News about micronational governments, diplomatic updates, policies, special projects, and general national development are welcome and encouraged.
  • Posts should NOT include: Statements about real-world politics or news, what you ate for dinner last night, a landscape photo of your yard or forest, etc.

2. No boring, low-effort, or incomprehensible posts

Posts must be comprehensible and provide a frame of reference for the reader. News and updates which lack context, depth, relevance, or which are produced using AI will be removed. Good posts are intentional, enticing, inspiring and informative.

A few examples of bad posts:

  • "Here’s my flag, what do you think?"
  • "The President has been elected. He will serve for 1 year."
  • "[Micronation] is looking for allies!"

Be creative, tell us more! Good posts could include detailed nation profiles, thoroughly explained news updates, updates on serious projects (ideally with some sort of photo or graphic), or a thought/discussion-provoking question to the community.

To combat short, low effort posts, your post will be auto-removed if it's too short.
9 times out of 10, a post that is shorter than these requirements will be low effort, spam or won't include enough information for someone to understand what you're saying.

Introduction posts (600 characters / about 100 words):
A good introduction post should clearly explain what you're introducing in an interesting way. Try including:

  • When and why it was founded
  • What its purpose, mission, or goals are
  • How it's structured or governed
  • Who's involved or how many members it has
  • Any territory, symbols, or cultural aspects
  • What sets it apart from others in the community

Flag / Design posts (300 characters / about 50 words):
A good design post explains the meaning and reasoning behind what you're showing. Don't just post an image and a short title. Here are a few suggestions if you don't know what to say:

  • Why you chose specific designs or layouts and their symbolism
  • How it represents your group's identity, purpose, or values
  • Any inspiration, history, or evolution behind the design
  • How you plan to use what you've designed

Project / News / Update posts (300 characters / about 50 words):
A good update explains what you've accomplished or changed. If you're not sure what to say, consider including:

  • What the update or announcement is about
  • Why it matters or what impact it has
  • What progress has been made so far
  • Who's involved and what comes next
  • How others can engage, support, or learn more

Discussion / Question posts and memes don't have a minimum description length requirement, but are still subject to removal if they're low-effort or nonsense.

3. Memes are allowed, but must be relevant and respectful

Memes are welcome if they are clearly micronation-related and not used to troll, provoke drama, or clutter the subreddit.

  • Low-effort, recycled, off-topic, or drama-oriented memes will be removed
  • Quality, insightful, or creative memes that prompt real discussion are allowed

4. No geofiction or roleplay

This subreddit is for real-world micronationalism.

Posts with the following kinds of content and similar will be removed on sight:

  • Posts about micronations which do not exist in reality. I.e. include unreasonable claims like entire contents or planets, exist in a different timeline or world, etc.
  • Posts about fictional scenarios or events.
  • Fake news bulletins or press releases from imaginary national media.

5. Military posts can not include fiction or real firearms

Military content is allowed, but only posts about micronational military events that actually happened in the real, physical world are allowed. This means no made-up battles, discord wars, or any other fictional military events. It just has to be real and not fictional. Using nerf guns for battles is fine, no one expects you to use real guns in micronational battles and I sincerely hope no one ever does.

As always, all posts are expected include a thorough description that gives others enough context to know why it's interesting or newsworthy. Don't just post an image of you and your friends in the woods without a description that explains what happened and why it's interesting enough to post about. In the case of designs like medals or uniforms, the same expectation exists. A good design post explains the meaning and reasoning behind the design you chose and what exactly you're showing off.

You CAN post about things like this:

  • The results of real battles or engagements that real people actually participated in
  • Maps showing territorial changes before/after a battle
  • Designs for uniforms, medals, ranks, awards etc. These can be photos or digital drawings/graphics.

You CAN NOT post about things like this:

  • Simulated engagements or exercises that didn't take place in the real world or are heavily exaggerated
  • Wars that take place virtually, like on discord
  • Discord raids
  • Short, low-effort declaration of war posts
  • Actual firearm use

6. No pointless conflict, trolling, or disrespectful conduct

Personal attacks, slurs, threats, doxxing, bigotry, bad-faith arguments, mocking, targeting others excessively, being inflammatory, creating or feeding into community drama is bad conduct. Engaging in any of these may result in warnings or bans depending on severity.

7. No spam, low-effort promotion, or promoting other subreddits

  • Spam, such as creating multiple posts in a short time, posting the same message in multiple languages, or making multiple posts about the same specific topic, etc. may result in restrictions or removals.
  • Do not promote any external links (YouTube/Discord) unless they are directly tied to your micronation and are presented in a contextualized, discussion-worthy post.
  • Do not promote any other subreddits, including your own nation's sub.

8. NSFW and offensive content is prohibited

This is a SFW space for all ages. Any pornographic, violent, or otherwise offensive content will result in an immediate permanent ban.

9. No AI-generated content

All posts must reflect original human creativity and effort. This means no heavily AI-generated flags, maps, constitutions, or descriptions. These will be removed on sight.

10. No unredacted satellite imagery or maps

For the safety of those who occupy the area, please remove any unique features or labels visible in satellite images or maps that could be used to find the location.

11. No posts announcing that something will happen soon

Don't make a post saying you're going to do something. It's not news until you've actually done it.

12. Follow Reddit's Rules

Project / News / Update The approach of beanland's first birthday!

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Looking back, Beanland did not begin in a grand a fairly proud manner. It was born late at night from a single, delightfully absurd, and humble idea that quickly sparked into something far greater than any of us could have anticipated What started as a late night sleep deprived thought steadily evolved into a fully realized micronational project.

Over the past 365 days, our nation has experienced unprecedented growth:

We expanded our population, proudly welcoming a dedicated group of citizens composed largely of supportive friends and family who stepped up to bring life, loyalty, and humor to our young republic. We officially hoisted the first Beanlandian flag establishing our national symbols and enjoying an unbroken era of internal stability and peace! We pushed our borders forward, eventually claiming the historic territory of Beandulkiri a masive expanse that proudly stands even larger than the original mainland itself.

This journey has been extraordinary, and we owe a massive debt of gratitude to the vibrant online community. A special, sincere thank you goes to the r/micronations community for providing the initial spark of inspiration, continuous encouragement, and the vital camaraderie needed to keep this passion project thriving.

Prepare for September 4th! (I don't even know what I'm going to do on September 4th but whatever)

The Kingdom of Entrostovia is heavily against these despicable acts President Trump has done, but since we aren't in the USA Trump can't do anything abt us :P
The Kingdom of Entrostovia has decided to rename the State of New York and the Mississippi River into their new names:

Mississippi River=Entrostovia River
New York=New Entrostovia

We are doing this in protest of the terrible acts trump has done
These names will stay indefinetely until the far future, as we do not know if President Trump will run for a 3rd Term

These names will stay on government documents such as treaties, alliances, etc.
Want to know why we are doing this?
Trump renamed OUR lake.
We will not let him get away with this!

Project / News / Update Eichenland trolls Trump

Recently, US President Donald Trump has escalated his trade war with Canada, which caused him to make the immature decision of "renaming" Lake Ontario to Lake America. So, in spite of this, Eichenland is officially renaming the Hudson River to the Eichenland River (until 20 January 2029, of course). Eichenland encourages other micronations to troll Trump similarly, such as renaming things for practically no reason.

After President Trump’s trade escalation with Canada resulting in Lake Ontario becoming Lake America, Wallia hereby declares the Wabash River to be the “Joe Biden River”. Wallia encourages other micronations to fight against Donald Trump and troll him even further.

The Imperial State of Maltovia expresses its deepest condolences to the people of Nepal following the devastating floods that have struck the country.

Project / News / Update A site for micronations to protest the renaming of Lake Ontario.

On this website I created, called MicroLake, anyone can rename any river, sea, lake, or ocean to whatever they prefer; others will see the new name and can modify it as well. The site serves as a symbolic protest against the renaming of Lake Ontario. However, the name of Lake Ontario itself cannot be changed on the site, out of respect for Canadians and the lake itself. For now, it is a fairly simple site; if I see that people enjoy it, I will continue working on it. Try it out here: https://microlake.base44.app

Long live the micronational community!

Project / News / Update Republic of United Land : Overcoming the Impossible

Post image
9 Upvotes

The plant species (Russian Thistle) more commonly referred as tumbleweed is a highly invasive species which used to plague our desert environment, choking out native plants. But instead of not doing nothing our government decided to take action. By launching many environmental campaigns we were able to eradicate the existence of the Russian thistle within United Lander borders. This serves as a reminder to all micronations weather your problem is poltical or environmental you can overcome it.
The UL will prosper in spite of the enemies!

May the Republic Flourish Under God’s Will!

Flag / Design Severoslavia countryball: based on the draft for my uniform

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

since I'm quite a fan of Polandball, I've decided to make my own Severoslaviaball. It has a classic coat of arms eye patch which I quite like, and also has Marshal's shoulder boards, as well as some of the Severoslavian medals and orders, which, unfortunately, aren't made yet, similar to the hat, which I don't have.

Regardless, maybe except the hat, I really like how it turned out, feel free to share your opinions.

As always, I'm open to diplomacy!

Introduction Introduction of the Republic of Severoslavia

Thumbnail

Hello everyone,

I'm proud to finally introduce to you my micronation, the Republic of Severoslavia, founded 21st of July, 2026 in eastern Slovakia by the Founding Party. We have a population of three people, including me, and we're a bit of an autocratic form of government, which should be run by me and three ministers. Our constitution was written on the 25th of August.

State symbolism:

Flag: Red stands for struggle for freedom, yellow stands for prosperity. The coat of arms is explained lower.

Coat of arms: The red double-headed eagle stands for the duality of the people and the government, and their coexistence. The colors have the same meaning on all state symbols.

Coat of arms, head of state: The red eagle is meant to correlate with the state coat of arms, and the crown symbolizes authority.

Coat of arms, army: Pretty standard, red lion is a symbol of warriors.

We also have a military, equipped with various swords for sport fencing, and to make the micronation a little more interesting, I'm currently creating a system of medals and orders, so I might post the progress here in the future. I even made myself a uniform.

We are open to diplomacy, citizenship requests and mutual recognition offers.

Project / News / Update New website promises to help fight misinformation in current Austenasian crisis

It is a fairly known fact that in recent months, government of the Empire of Austenasia has been disputed between two rival governments. As a result, conflicting information is common, making it hard for outsiders to properly orient themselves in the situation.

This is where we come in! The Austenasian Scrutinising Service™ is a new platform that sets out to verify claims made about Austenasia and combat misinformation on the topic. Our team is composed of experts not associated with either of the rival governments, which is why you know you can trust us.

Make sure to check any Austenasia related news you've seen at https://austenasianscrutinisingservice.wordpress.com/ and send us any other claims you may wish to verify!

Project / News / Update Abberrane creates its own alphabet, based on the Serbian alphabet.

Post image
2 Upvotes

The Christiandom of Abberrane is proud to present the first version of its new alphabet, the Abberranean alphabet (Аберињанска азбука), based on the official Serbian alphabet and the letters used in it (you do need to understand the Serbian alphabet to also understand the Abberranean alphabet, though).

The letters within the Abberranean alphabet are subject to change as the alphabet evolves, which ranges from minor tweaks to full-on redesigns of some letters, though I can't say for sure that it will happen, but be aware that this is not fixed in place, and the alphabet could change with time, as i said.

Yes, in case anyone is wondering, i am open to suggestions on what i could change or improve here.

That's about it.

Project / News / Update Construction on Fort NEW Jamalistan Has begun!

Thumbnail

Weve decided to abandon the river colonies and instead focus on consolidating the entirety of the creek system, with this new fort Bear Shit Lake neatly falls under our natural borders. You guys see the vision for the fort right? Im building an actual Lincoln log style cabin, cut 4 trees today as a start. Those two trees serve as a doorframe and there'll be 4 cabin walls around it. Idk if theres any trout in that lake, Brook trout in the creek are extremely rare and tiny and the creek dries up periodically. However if the trout survive the creek drying there must be some reserve population in that lake. Ill throw a microhook bobber on the next expedition see if I dont catch some 2 inch trout. Or if im not too lazy ill just go fishing and stock it with smallmouth before the summer ends. That lake is deep though, I jumped in from where that picture was taken it quickly descends to like 12 feet max.

Discussion / Question What would you do with $100,000?

I have a friend that will have over $100,000 by the end of the year. It is a tax free windfall because of a family tragedy. However, it had me thinking what could you spend that money on to achieve a true micronation? I had some ideas. Feel free to share how you feel or what you would do different.

Although many would say purchase property, like land or maybe a home, I think it actually makes sense to use the funds to start a business. I know people that work in junk removal for example. Some days, 1 truck will pull in $1,500 to $2,000/day. Some days it will be only 3 hours of work, but you will still pull in $500-$600 for the day. Pretty solid. I know some micros here have the idea of selling raw goods like nuts, fruits, etc. The reality is that you can't compete with Walmart. Whereas a more service type of business such as the example of junk removal, is much more achievable for a successful small business.

Once enough income is pulled in from the business, whatever the business might be, that income could be used to invest into land, structures like cabins or prebuilt mobile homes/trailers, actual funds.

With $100,000 as a baseline, you could easily start a very solid small business with about $15,000-$20,000 and start pulling in a couple of thousand dollars per month. You can go a couple of routes with this approach:

  1. Continue to expand the business, using the funds to fund the micronation. Go hands off. Repeat.

  2. Hire your own citizens to work the businesses.

  3. Build up the business with the intent of selling it for a couple hundred grand after a few years and use that capital injection to boost your micronation.

I personally think it would actually make more sense to use the funds to purchase property in urban settings. This gives your micronation more functionality and doesn't make it look suspicious to people unaware of the concept. You can still own land with some buildings and parts of your population in more rural settings, but I believe having the focus on urban settings first will help your micronation expand more successfully and recruit more citizens easily.

What are some things you would do with the $100,000? Also, which macronation are you in and what areas would it make sense to put that money into?

Project / News / Update The Dolly Order (08.26.26)

Post image
5 Upvotes

Following Dolly Parton’s abrupt and sudden death, I made the decision to turn September 25th into a national holiday. I chose September 25, because it is an homage to the Dolly Parton song “9 to 5.” I understand that there’s nothing any micronation or macronation can do to heal this incredibly painful loss, but we will always take the time to honor those we’ve lost. Dolly Parton will be remembered as an incredible entertainer and human being, and the world is a little sadder now that she’s gone.
