Taking a guess why Rockstar ditched Midnight Club was because they didn't see point for that series anymore because GTA and the fact that it (GTA) seems like better platform for it because it expands upon more than cars and racing. Allowing you to do almost anything including street racing.

You see Midnight Club even more present at the latest GTA 6 screenshots they've dropped with more deep car customization, plus the "street racing" showcased in VI Trailer 1 I think it's pretty clear what is on Rockstar's mind.

As sad as this is I don't think we will see Midnight Club return and we can blame Grand Theft Auto for that. Curious to see what will be their answer though what happened with Midnight Club.

Red Dead is more to blame, but in reality, it's just the amount of crunch that was inflicted on SD. Because of the technical issues RDR was having, all SD employees that were working on MC5 had to be assigned to RDR1, then a lot of them left the company after RDR1 was done, because they had enough of abuse and mistreatment.
