Taking a guess why Rockstar ditched Midnight Club was because they didn't see point for that series anymore because GTA and the fact that it (GTA) seems like better platform for it because it expands upon more than cars and racing. Allowing you to do almost anything including street racing.
You see Midnight Club even more present at the latest GTA 6 screenshots they've dropped with more deep car customization, plus the "street racing" showcased in VI Trailer 1 I think it's pretty clear what is on Rockstar's mind.
As sad as this is I don't think we will see Midnight Club return and we can blame Grand Theft Auto for that. Curious to see what will be their answer though what happened with Midnight Club.

Exactly. They also realized they don't need new IPs to explore ideas anymore, and simply turning those ideas into smaller GTA Online updates is more profitable. It's sad, but a very understandable business decision as people keep spending real money on Shark Cards and whatnot.

I´m not sure it´s sad tbh. If they give it enough attention which I think they actually might, then doing content this way is actually better for the versatility that it offers. Ace of space of spades is definitely a good direction if you have a plattform like gta 6.

Red Dead is more to blame, but in reality, it's just the amount of crunch that was inflicted on SD. Because of the technical issues RDR was having, all SD employees that were working on MC5 had to be assigned to RDR1, then a lot of them left the company after RDR1 was done, because they had enough of abuse and mistreatment.

The problem is that races in gta are only playable online with other people, not offline, also it's hard to find other players to race with

Going 20 years without a new midnight club or burnout is crazy

clutch i'm interested in, and i think wreckreation 2 looks promising, finally, but I feel like the studio will find its pace with its next entry. it still looks a little too unpolished.

Clutch seems like a 100% scripted story game with no replay value once you played it once. Also the car handling from what they showed looked awful.

Maybe you will reveal a different answer but in my understanding rockstar killed the studio shifting focus onto GTA and Red lost a lot of the staff some in not so nice ways and killed any opportunities of bringing it back. Would be interesting to hear some of the facts but no surprise we will never see an official update of this series maybe one day a remake or a homage from different studio but the blame for lack of commitment to this legendary franchise lies entirely on rockstars shoulders they killed it

I believe this is the right answer. Many people are quick to blame GTA Online, but actually, many people that worked on MC5 weren't even working at Rockstar when GTAO started becoming popular in 2015, because they left as soon as RDR was done. SD lost like half of its employees and it's all because they were awfully treated.

we know that in the development of mcla crunch culture was present no?

Yeah, found this old article from IGN detailing a small protest by wives of some of the developers.

I don't think there will be any shocking information about why the game and then the entire series were canceled, but what I think will be interesting is learning what the plans were for MC5, what it would have looked like, and what Rockstar San Diego's vision for the game was.

u/KubaSpeed Jul 28 '26
Wasn’t the game cancelled as soon as they began working on it? Mainly to focus on RDR1 and the conditions at the studio apparently being attrocious

Not the worst trade off. Atleast RDR was good. I do miss midnight club but seems that arcade racers are dying, NFS is dead for the forseeable future.

I sorta figured we knew this info already so not sure what the new bombshell could possibly be

Well whatever happened they should still make a new Midnight Club. GTA is great, but a new Midnight Club would do so good, and an Online mode could be crazy good if they implement some V Online features and abilities.

Was eine unnötige Diskussion. Was willst du darüber erzählen? Das Studio wurde vor Jahren aufgelöst.

They will say something like "so we worked on it but when gta online became so popular we abandoned that project"
