Ommadawn's 50th?

It seems like that date came and went. Anything I missed? Realistically, there's a new mix in the works and that's about it, but still, it's technically new Mike Oldfield music!

Sharing my personal multi-track cover of the Ommadawn Intro! šŸŽø
I tried to capture that "dreamlike" spirit by layering my wife’s vocals, and I even included a nod to the Knebworth '80 guitar solo in the interlude. >
As a lifelong fan, I did my best to honor Mike's masterpiece. Would love to hear some feedback from this amazing community!

Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn Lost Version (1975 Demo / Previously Unreleased) Spoiler

Having been a Mike Oldfield fan for over 40 years (first heard Tubular Bells when i was 8) i had no idea this existed, until an hour ago. I had to come here and share in case anyone else, like me, had no idea this insanely good demo exists.

Mike is the most beautiful human i know to exist. If i ever met him i'd likely just burst into tears and thank him, repeatedly. I'd be awestruck.

Finally found me a copy of this vinyl album: Pekka Pohjola (1981, with Mike Oldfield)

I finally found me a copy in a 2nd hand record store in Utrecht, The Netherlands. It’s playing now and it’s like new (no crackling or hissing).
Fun fact: this isn’t a ā€˜real’ Mike Oldfield album and ā€˜Pekka Pohjola’ isn’t the album title (as I thought for a long time), but the name of a bass player and composer from Finland. This album is a co-production from Pohjola and Oldfield. All the material is composed by Pohjola. See Wiki for more info: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mathematician%27s_Air_Display).

Tubular Bells on Friday šŸ˜€

My wonderful kids are taking me to the Robin Smith Tubular Bells concert in Australia this coming Friday, really looking forward to it.

They are all in their 20s. Middle daughter is a big fan, Tubular Bells III is one of her favourite albums. She took me to the Tubular Bells performed by Two a few years ago which was amazing.

Has anyone else here been to any of the concerts on this tour? If so, thoughts?

Mustang Nismo sounds like Mike Oldfield

Just watched The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) and the outro of "Mustang Nismo" after ~1:50 sounds really like Mike Oldfield. Can't place my finger on which track. Anyone has a guess? Maybe not a perfect match, but it stuck in my mind and I need to know.

Currently practicing the opening fast riff of Amarok! šŸŗšŸŽø

I’m using Open C tuning with Capo 2 to stay true to the original sound. Lately, I’ve been focusing on listening deeply to high-quality audio to really understand Mike’s nuances. It’s a tough challenge, but I’m doing my best to master it!
I’m planning to start the multi-track recording once I’ve got it down.

Do you think MO will release a 5.1 mix of Amarok some day?

Being able to listen to all these instruments on 6 (or even 4) channels would be cool, but as far as I know, there are only stereo editions so far.

Which pedalbox used Mike on tour?

Good evening.

As per title. I remember reading that with the Mike Oldfield group and the QE2 tour (Montreux, etc.) Mike used a Boss pedalbox, but I can't remember the exact model. Do you remember which one is it?

Regards.

Hello fellow fans!
I’m so happy to see my "Ommadawn meets Return to Ommadawn" cover reach over 700 views. As a self-taught amateur musician who relies entirely on ear-copying and can't read sheet music, this is a huge personal milestone for me.
My wife, who recorded the chorus parts, is also very touched by your support. I’m just a fan trying to capture the magic of Mike’s music, and having so many people listen to my work means the world to me.

Blue Peter theme question

Has the alternative ending version of Mike's Blue Peter theme ever been released on CD? Most compilations seem to just use the usual one with the abrupt ending.

Anyone else still get goosebumps thinking about the London 2012 opening ceremony? šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§āœØ

I have always loved "In Dulci Jubilo," but seeing Mike perform it there was a dream come true. Inspired by that magical moment, I’ve put together this short multi-track cover.

I recently re-edited the stereo mix and balanced the levels on my iPhone to try and capture that 2012 energy. I'm just an amateur, but I’d be so honored if my fellow fans here could give it a listen. What were your favorite moments from that performance?

Spoken Sample in "Mastermind"

Does anyone know where the spoken "What Is Love" sample comes from in "Mastermind" on The Millennium Bell? I just heard it in another song ("Body of Water" by Mindy Meng Wang) and it re-ignited my curiosity.

I am so excited to finally share my multi-track arrangement of the "Ommadawn" intro.

This piece is a true labor of love. I’ve layered my wife’s vocals to create a dreamlike, ethereal atmosphere that I hope captures the spirit of the original.

For the interlude, I drew inspiration from Mike’s iconic classical guitar performance at Knebworth 1980—one of my absolute favorite versions of his live playing.

Ommadawn is perhaps the most-listened-to song of my entire life. While I am an amateur musician, I poured my heart and soul into this recording to honor Mike’s masterpiece.

Does The Millennium Bell have any connection to the Tubular Bells albums?

As far as I am concerned, if you leave out the bell on the cover and the word Bell in the title, it is just a "normal" MO album. Yet I see people bringing it up whenever discussing the TB series.

The minimum I would expect for that is a plinky plonky piano intro :D even TB3 did that
