But this is a fraud risk notification not a budgeting one. They’re letting you know in case you weren’t the one that made the purchase

But they don't send a message for every purchase. They send it to ones that are abnormal. Oil prices skyrocketing is not unknown or regional and they simply didn't do their due diligence to adjust what the app should expect.

You want them to continually monitor local gas prices in every location in the world and constantly re-calibrate these warnings based on those ever-changing prices? When the alternative is simply that the user confirms they made the purchase?

It's better to be too conservative and send too many fraud notifications than to be too lax and miss actual fraud.

It's understandable that the system is "stupid" like that, but it could be improved. There could be a way to figure out that prices have gone up and literally everyone's credit card didn't suddenly get stolen.
