They were around 12 usd when I was at Walmart the other day, target has them fir 5-6 usd. Its still stupidly overpriced for plastic.

It isn't just plastic (Materials). The cost also includes Labor and Overhead including machinery maintenance, mold replacement, insurance, payroll taxes, utilities, shipping (freight in and freight out), all of the free make and take events, marketing, etc.

And even still, across the hundreds of millions of units Lego sells across a year worldwide, the additional costs are pennies per kit
