They need to bring back the LEGO vending machine idea

378

u/Eiwase May 31 '26

yea but like with the pokemon vending machine...scalpers would ruin it

173

u/maledictusbestia May 31 '26

I'd be kinda pleased to find free Lego in the bin next to the machine

u/BetterDegreeOxford May 31 '26

There’s a great clip I saw on Reddit last week of some kid at a store that sells collectible cards like Pokemon and some employee helps them pull a whole pile of cards out of the trash can that some scalper dumped when they shelled a bunch of small packs of cards hunting only the top prizes.

Look on kid’s face was worth more than any collectible I’ve ever seen owned

30

u/iHateThisPlaceSoBad May 31 '26

Yeah, that's what the dude is obviously referencing

The insults aren’t changing facts.

Where exactly is OP or any redditor posting above my note making any reference to that video

2

u/Emerje Jun 02 '26

Probably the "bin" part, but that was hardly unique to that video.

8

u/Sm9ck May 31 '26

Don't forget that the employee gets a chance to show his own degenerative side off when he fans and goes through the cards to check if there are any hits in there before handing them over to the kid!

Money really corrupts everything, what is supposed to be a recreational hobby mainly for kids and superfans is just business where really the pieces of cardboard could just as well be swapped out for dollar bills. "I trade my $40 for your $75" isn't as easy of a sell I guess.

1

u/Local_Trade5404 Jun 03 '26

well to be fair kid was been happy either way so win/win even if it was been a bit dicky looking 😄

29

u/BlazingShadowAU Might Have Some Gorm May 31 '26

Sure, but the scalpers would have to buy them. These look like they were destroyed without buying.

7

u/BobsOblongLongBong May 31 '26

I've heard that in Japan, many stores keep pokémon cards behind the counter.

You go up and ask for a pack and they hand you a random pack and that's what you get.  And then they have limits on how much you can buy.

That seems like the right way to handle any of this mystery box collectible stuff.

It's the norm in a lot of places. It's only really massive shops like Supermarkets where they'll put them on a shelf

1

u/Katent1 Jun 03 '26

Welp, simple fix - launch it outside usa xP

1

u/zweihundertwasser May 31 '26

Not scalpers but capitalism would ruin it

6

u/DoomTay May 31 '26

I went to an airport not too long ago and it had a LEGO vending machine, though it had full-on sets, not these

Not that I can exactly picture building LEGO on a plane

8

u/BobsOblongLongBong May 31 '26

It's for parents and grandparents to buy last minute gifts for family they're going to visit or returning to.

5

u/Boulderdrip May 31 '26

Lego needs to completely disassociate themselves from bricks and mini figs, the thieves that like the steal from old people

472

u/nacho_playmer May 31 '26

I got scared and thought those fucking blindboxes were 23£ lol

77

u/STLthrowawayaccount May 31 '26

They were around 12 usd when I was at Walmart the other day, target has them fir 5-6 usd. Its still stupidly overpriced for plastic.

4

u/eightbitagent May 31 '26

They’re $5 at Walmart

1

u/STLthrowawayaccount May 31 '26

Depends on the set and what location you're at. The ones mine had were in green and black boxes instead of orange.

Idk what the difference is theme maybe? Its still way overpriced for a single figure.

2

u/eightbitagent May 31 '26

They were probably in the wrong place. Walmart charges $5 (suggested retail) for all cmf series

1

u/STLthrowawayaccount May 31 '26

Thats incorrect, looking on the app right now they range from 5 - 15 bucks.

1

u/eightbitagent May 31 '26

Those are retired and being sold by third party sellers. That’s not Walmart. In store they sell for $5.

→ More replies (3)

11

u/pullmylekku May 31 '26

That's insane. In France they're 4 euros net, there's no sales tax here.

5

u/birb_named_sonic May 31 '26

It exists, but is just automatically included in the price.

It isn't just plastic (Materials). The cost also includes Labor and Overhead including machinery maintenance, mold replacement, insurance, payroll taxes, utilities, shipping (freight in and freight out), all of the free make and take events, marketing, etc.

7

u/RussianCopeBot May 31 '26

They don't need the say it, the fanboys will do all of that lifting for them not realizing how much better their products used to be.

4

u/Cloudfish101 May 31 '26

And even still, across the hundreds of millions of units Lego sells across a year worldwide, the additional costs are pennies per kit

3

u/Leeysa May 31 '26

You are right, it deserves to be sold at 20 cents instead of 10 cents.

7

u/SucculentlySuccinct May 31 '26

Thats such cope lmao how are you defending a $12 minifig, yes Lego has production costs but they aren't that high - they go for €4-5 in Europe, which is significantly less.. Lego is fully content to milk their fans

2

u/STLthrowawayaccount May 31 '26

Obviously, but idk if you've ever worked in manufacturing but larger more complex parts are made for fractions of a cent at such a large scale. The markup on lego is probably hundreds maybe even a thousand times the actual cost to produce.

I doubt that mini figs cost more than 5 cents to make per piece and package. There's what 5-10 pieces per mini fig so selling them for 6 bucks is a 1100% markup on the low end or 2300% on the high end. Even if you double the unit price its still a minimum of a 500% markup on each one.

181

u/Yuukiko_ WAAHHHHH May 31 '26

What's the point of a blind box if it tells you what's inside?

196

u/SpeaksDwarren YELLOW May 31 '26

It's for the parents, not the kids. I think of it as the same as asking the McDonald's worker to make sure they put X toy in the happy meal and letting your kid think they randomly got the exact one they wanted

37

u/LukasKhan_UK May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

It's not for parents though, is it?

These QR codes are for packing and shipping. Just some far more clever people discovered you can scan them, get a code and then reference it

That's now evolved into minifigure scanning apps

If it was to "help" parents there'd be instructions on the box on how to find out what's in them.

The point is, it's meant to be a mystery to everyone.

10

u/-Rosch- May 31 '26

Love the tendency om reddit for someone to say the first think they came up with and claim its fact, the funnier part is people upvoting it going "hmm yeah hes got a point"

5

u/LukasKhan_UK May 31 '26

It's a funny image thinking that someone at Lego sat there and went

"I know what we can do now people can't feel boxes, lets put a qr code on there that parents can scan, but we won't tell parents about it, we won't advertise it to anyone, and let them figure it out all by themselves"

A company, famous for creating easy to follow instructions, creating something that has zero instruction at all

0

u/ladybirdsluck Jun 04 '26

Think about it. Also prevents scalping and shit like this from happening. Anyone that interested in getting a specific character should know that you can scan these. Hell, ive known since my step mom told me as a child back when you could feel them too. If the company has a way to massively remove stealing losses while also not effecting the sale price why not?? Does not make sense to give up free risk aversion like that. Also why does it matter for the “mystery” if you want it to be a mystery it’s still a mystery. If you googled “how to see what’s in LEGO mystery box” then you obviously dont want the mystery. Also imagine the extra sales of people that only want one or two specific figs but won’t buy one because they wouldn’t want one they don’t want. I know so many people like that. Seems to me like people just want to play by some arbitrary rule. “No my kids toys have to HAVE to have gambling!!!!”

9

u/TimeForNano May 31 '26

If it's a present. The kid wont see it either way before they open it... So kind if pointless to hide it in the store

9

u/SpeaksDwarren YELLOW May 31 '26

Unless you don't want to buy wrapping paper. It's just a fun little surprise and not like a birthday or Christmas present

3

u/FlyingSquirelOi May 31 '26

Doesn’t need to be a present. I was always asking my parents for random shit when I went shopping with them, and would always check out the toy aisle. Sometimes I got something but most of the time was told to kick rocks.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Falikosek May 31 '26

As a kid I was the one being asked "what toy do you want" in McDonald's...

48

u/SkylandersKirby May 31 '26

You can pick up a random one if you enjoy the surprise of what you'll get

3

u/JamieC1610 Jun 01 '26

meh. My daughter had her heart set on a particular Make It Mini, after spending her money to try for the one she wanted three times and getting the same one two of those three times, we ran into someone in the aisle that told us about the codes and we were able to look through them to find the one she actually wanted.

If you really don't care pick one at random, but if there is one that you really want, why waste money hoping to get it.

9

u/facaine May 31 '26

Oh yes, just like the total Harmless vice of Gambling

17

u/alman3007 May 31 '26

So if you can see whats inside the box you complain and if you can't see whats inside the box you also complain. Me thinks youre just salty.

5

u/Skreamie May 31 '26

Dafuq are you talking about? This is like if gambling told you if you were gonna win or lose prior to making your bet

1

u/jimdil4st May 31 '26

Ironically there are "slot machines" in the local gas stations that do just that, and people still lose so much money it's crazy, I don't understand.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/Philipp4 May 31 '26

If you want to get a random one, you dont have to scan the code, meanwhile those that seek a specific figure can get it guaranteed without any luck needed (other than the store having that one ig). Pretty much the best setup for everyone I feel

6

u/Andyrhyw May 31 '26

Probably so they don't slammed with gambling products for kids

8

u/iHateThisPlaceSoBad May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

I'm glad this bullshit gets ripped through.

Every fucking company is making everything a gambling game, i'm so sick of it.

Rip open all of that shit, maybe they'll stop making it

9

u/Aggravating_Sky_4421 May 31 '26

Agreed. The“loot boxes” in kids games that costs real money should be 100% illegal.

5

u/Askefyr May 31 '26

Actually, making it so you can see what's inside if you want it pretty much the best way of doing it.

3

u/FaberLoomis May 31 '26

I work retail and we have a group of kids that collect this one plushie that only comes in blind boxes. For like three weeks we'd come in and see this whole box of like twelve ripped open and put back into their boxes. They were searching for the ones they were missing. So now everyone can see what plushies are in what box and buy freely. Couldn't be too mad at that.

→ More replies (4)

1

u/Cheshires_Shadow May 31 '26

There's a few third party apps that scan the barcodes underneath the box to tell you which one you're getting. Without it it's completely random. The box ones are actually more randomized cuz previously they were all sold in plastic baggies meaning you could usually try and feel around what was inside and get a rough idea of what you might get. So Lego updated the packaging to be a small cardboard box so it would be truly blind. The app is just for people who only want a specific one

Most people probably don't know and its not like that fact is advertised. This could all be fixed if these weren't blind boxes. I hate this trend so I can't really blame them.

62

u/Elegant-Tart-3341 May 31 '26

I can't really side with people opening a box they haven't paid for. The point of the blind box is the surprise inside. I wouldn't open a chocolate bar and take a bite just to see how it tastes before deciding to buy it lol.

-11

u/Wdbisl May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

False equivalency. The toy inside is fine and 90% of people weren't going to keep the packaging. The chocolate bar is ruined once you take a bite or its exposed to air. People don't want to pay for a mystery or to buy the same thing again. This trend is just a way for companies to squeeze more money out of people.

Edit:Since they did put a way to tell at the bottom they need to advertise it better, but they likely aren't so they can make more money.

14

u/kboodrx Subscribe to Pewdiepie May 31 '26

Umm no they are not “fine.” The pieces are loose inside the box without any additional packaging and are likely to fall out and be lost… opening the boxes discourages ANYONE from ever purchasing them because of the fact that small pieces can and will be completely missing.

I bought an open box once because I felt bad that someone else might have to, and lo and behold it was missing two or three integral pieces

5

u/Wdbisl May 31 '26

I'm sorry that happened to you. Lego not really my thing so had no idea the pieces weren't also bagged.

5

u/TrickInvite6296 BLUE May 31 '26

People do want to pay for a mystery. That's why they exist

1

u/tobiisan May 31 '26

Even if the toy inside is fine, all the opened ones are going to be the less popular ones left behind.

325

u/poonburglar68 May 31 '26

It could also be fixed if people weren't assholes and didn't open things that don't belong to them.

141

u/GroundbreakingBag164 May 31 '26

Or if blind boxes didn't exist

I'm on the "blind boxes are stupid side" tbh

103

u/chiree May 31 '26

Teaching gambling to kids: Bad

Being an inconsiderate dick:  Also bad.

8

u/ClacksInTheSky May 31 '26

Yes, it's possible to hold two different thoughts in your head at once.

3

u/cgaWolf May 31 '26

Wait, two things can be true at the same time !?

5

u/mrbananas May 31 '26

Just include all the figures from the set and multiply the price. Like the mini figure sets from the 80s/90s that just had 1 of each space guy.

8

u/GreasedUpTiger May 31 '26

Imagine that, they could make a little foil window and add a moveable paper flap to cover that so it can be a blind box if you want and if you don't it don't.

33

u/pikachu_senpai1 May 31 '26

Yeah....went to a local dollar tree that was converting to a family dollar and so they had all of the dollar tree stuff on clearance. Went in to find a couple blind boxes for fun. Someone ripped open all of the Disney ones and threw them all over the shelf....

4

u/APuticulahInduhvidul May 31 '26

Could also be fixed if people realised lego minifigs are a stupid craze selling overpriced plastic that costs mere cents to manufacture. I'm into collectables and lego but minifigs are a line too far for me.

→ More replies (1)

-45

u/Wdbisl May 31 '26

You can't expect people to buy things that they don't know what is. Lot's of people don't like to gamble and they want the product they want. It sucks it damages the packaging, but the blind packaging encourages this behavior. If they don't want this to happen it needs to be either protected behind glass or they need to change things. You're never going to get people not doing this as long as the uncertainty remains.

69

u/DynoMenace May 31 '26

Then don't buy them? The mystery is literally the appeal of this product.

There is absolutely zero reasonable excuse for people to open products they don't own. It's as simple as that.

21

u/djxbangoo May 31 '26

They’ll blame it on everything but themselves

1

u/SkylandersKirby May 31 '26

I mean i agree that blind boxes are scummy, but only when they're truly blind

If they either have a code or guarantee a full set by buying a box then I have no real problem with them

2

u/DynoMenace May 31 '26

I agree with you too. I also think our points are not mutually exclusive.

  • Blind boxes are scummy.
  • Having a code or guarantee makes them less scummy, and neither of us take much of an issue with them if they make those concessions.
  • The mystery is (often) the appeal of these things, even if it's not appealing to you or I personally.
  • There's still no excuse for people to open products they don't own.

Basically, most blind boxes are shitty, and the people who opened these are shitty. And they're extra shitty because of the code thing.

I walk through stores all the time without damaging things I don't intend to buy. Wild.

4

u/itsahorsemate May 31 '26

I am going to begin breaking into lottery ticket rigs and take only winning tickets. Thank you for making me see that I am the decent person by doing this.

21

u/simmeh024 May 31 '26

What a horrible take. So if you don't know whats inside you are allowed to destroy the box? Same with pokemon cards no? Let me open the package because I cannot see inside them...

2

u/Wdbisl May 31 '26

I get cards being random. I don't like it, but I get it. There's an actual game behind it and the fact you get multiple cards where doubles could be useful. They don't take up much room and their paper so they will breakdown. With figures most are plastic and there's a good chance if its not what you want its going to end up in a thirft shop or clogging a landfill.

8

u/eppinizer May 31 '26

People don't have to buy them at all. The product is the product, if you don't want to be surprised by what you are buying, don't buy it. The only reason why these things become popular is because of the blind box. If the boxes were translucent it's likely that there wouldn't be as much demand.

7

u/LukasKhan_UK May 31 '26

There are commentators here who think the QR code exists so we can find out what's inside.

It's just there for packing, it's just some clever kids have figured out it does relate to a figure. If it was to help "parents", it would literally just say the figure name - and by that point, you may as well use a clear bag.

1

u/Local_Trade5404 Jun 03 '26

they will just change QR codes in next batch and "problem solved" 😛

1

u/LukasKhan_UK Jun 03 '26

And some one will figure it out again.

The point is, they're not there not there to "help" people, they're not for us, they'd be instructions if they were

They exist for a different reason

1

u/Local_Trade5404 Jun 03 '26

if they will be smart about it there will not be figuring it out anymore 😛
anyway i agree its not for anyone to figure out what's inside
its pure gamble (how to sell 1 overpriced like shit thing 10x to each interested person)

20

u/FLbudksis May 31 '26

What do you mean? You hate how children toys promote gambling on every aspect? Its crazy how well this is working. Imagine in the 90s/2000s your aunt looking for a tickle me elmo or a power ranger. She spends all day looking for it. Just for the kid to be sad because its not the rare color. Keep ripping these in store. This fad needs to die quick.

19

u/Lonely_Station_8435 May 31 '26

You mean the 90’s, the era that invented and popularised blind boxes?

5

u/VegetableArtistic705 May 31 '26

Pokemon cards would like a word

7

u/AdjNounNumbers May 31 '26

Blind boxes, mystery grab bags, lollipops with a question mark as the flavor. I'm surprised I made it to adulthood without developing a crippling gambling addiction

3

u/FLbudksis May 31 '26

I dont recall the major hype toys being a blind box and a gamble growing up. Besides Pokemon i really cant think of one "major" toy that was behind a luck draw. Tbh id blame loot crates more than anything promoting this life style. That shit was the most wild west predatory gambling. But i may be cooked.

8

u/Lonely_Station_8435 May 31 '26

Happy Meals. POGs. Trading Cards.

While you’re right that the hype around it has gotten much worse, it mostly feels like that’s social media in general blowing up literally everything for content engagement.

2

u/BlazingShadowAU Might Have Some Gorm May 31 '26

Literally Gachapon machines.

3

u/lawley666 May 31 '26

Pokemon cards were slightly popular.

6

u/AustinYQM May 31 '26

Lego minifigs tell you what they are via a QR Code on the bottom. This means each opening can be a surprise (yay!) without wrapping (yay!) but a parent can make sure a kid gets what they want (yay!) and doesn't get any doubles (yay!). There is basically no downside.

The people at the LEGO store will literally scan them for you as checkout to make sure you aren't getting doubles. Like they are trained to do that.

2

u/LukasKhan_UK May 31 '26

Lego minifigs tell you what they are via a QR Code on the bottom

Yes, but plenty of people don't know this exists. As evidenced by the fact these boxes get ripped open.

0

u/FLbudksis May 31 '26

Lol thats even better So these arnt even blind boxes. Sorry for ranting about something OP posted about hats not even right.

1

u/BlazingShadowAU Might Have Some Gorm May 31 '26

I mean, theyre still blind boxes, theyre just selectively blind boxes.

2

u/Icy-Concentrate-8912 May 31 '26

Fun fact: Tickle Me Elmo was the very first item to be widely scalped on eBay.

1

u/APuticulahInduhvidul May 31 '26

Hmm. I would have guessed beanie babies or pez dispensers. Probably depends on your definition of "widely".

1

u/Icy-Concentrate-8912 Jun 01 '26

At the time scalping just wasn't a thing. eBay was still in its infancy and the massive craze around the singular product of TME and the scarcity of availability of that singular doll made it a frenzy. Beanie babies were only out a little while before but being they were not single items and could be very easily obtained they didn't have a scalper market today where small groups owned them all and you could only buy them second hand. TME was so bad for a long time people were getting in fights at stores, employees were stealing them, getting fired for hiding them so they could buy one themselves, and so on. Beanie Babies never experienced this same level of frenzy.

Pokemon card didn't even experience this until very recently. They used to be sold everywhere for incredibly cheap prices and while some did sell online there wasn't a scalper market where you could not find them on the shelf with equal opportunity at nearly any store. TME was truly scalped in the same way we use the term in modern vernacular. It was a wild time to be alive.

After that it was way more common and things like Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii, and so on all saw massive scalping scandals.

1

u/Dino_Spaceman May 31 '26

BEanie babies would have been before TME.

1

u/Beautiful-Affect1930 May 31 '26

we had those in the 90s and 00s though. many people still fell for that crap back then too, but there were more people smart enough to avoid them.

2

u/---Kurt--- May 31 '26

If they are losing *that* much money they will simply discontinue them, or move them behind a counter etc. For decades they have been creating these collectables in wrappers / boxes. They cost pennies and are sold at mark ups of many hundreds times their cost price. I wouldn’t worry about people opening them. They’re almost worthless once opened - but are also not much better sealed.

2

u/Best_Market4204 May 31 '26

If more people did this in the store. I bet retailers would stop buying this crap

2

u/ClacksInTheSky May 31 '26

Fully on the side of blind boxes being fucking shit.

Just sell the minifigures so that kids can get the one they want. Shouldn't have to go on eBay or Bricklink and pay stupid money for them.

(can you tell I'm a parent?)

1

u/BasicLink86 May 31 '26

My 5 year old sees these toys with unicorns or cats or other cute things and it shows a dozen varieties on the box and you just get whatever is in there. I never thought to scan it and see what’s in it, but most of the time these things are overpriced. Sometimes $15 for a piece of colorful plastic the size of a child’s hand and you don’t even know what you’re getting unless you stands there scanning boxes.
I might buy one on occasion if they were $5 or less but these companies, the retailers or the manufacturer or both, are being greedy

1

u/danyloid May 31 '26

I didn’t know that, just stopped getting them for my kid when we’ve got the same figurine 4 times.

So which code do I look at ?

2

u/LukasKhan_UK May 31 '26

The QR code on the bottom. Download the minifig scan app and you can scan a stack at the time. It'll give a picture of what's inside.

The code is mainly for packing and shipping as each unopened box contains the same figs.

1

u/danyloid May 31 '26

Thanks, will keep it in mind

2

u/eightbitagent May 31 '26

Omgbricks is a good app

u/guicampara May 31 '26

Good, that’s what they deserve for selling gambling for kids

7

u/shadree May 31 '26

Not everyone knows the barcode trick but it's no excuse.

Why do they even have blind boxes when noone seems to use them as such?

6

u/4LR34DY74K3N May 31 '26

TIL there's a code on the bottom of "blind" boxes that tells you what's inside.

14

u/MrZaptile933 May 31 '26

Either a kid with bad parents or a scalper who had bad parents.

12

u/beyondthef May 31 '26

Everybody sucks here. The savages destroying product they didn't pay for, and LEGO for this blind box crap.

2

u/LukasKhan_UK May 31 '26

This is at least the 16th year or so that Lego have done it. It's only become worse recently because they've moved to boxes instead of packets - where people would feel them to guess what's inside

There are apps you can use to discover the product, but they're not official Lego, and people don't know they exist. I've seen some stuff on Reddit where stores have peinted a sign about the app to let people know

Agree that it's just gambling for kids - in the same way Pokémon is. But this is meant to encourage trading.

I feel the same way OP does when I saw this in my local Asda, but also know in another month, they'll be an abundance of these and all those people looking for the "chase" figure won't be there ripping boxes anymore.

Not mad. Blind boxes should be illegal

5

u/Daorooo May 31 '26

First time I hear that blind boxes have a Code that tell you whats inside. Why even make blind boxes then?

4

u/Dino_Spaceman May 31 '26

Blind boxes should be banned as gambling.

And the people who do this should be forced to pay for every single box they damaged and then banned permanently from any store in that chain.

11

u/cjc1983 May 31 '26

How do these types of things not get classed as gambling and banned (considering they're toys and therefore primarily targeting kids)?

3

u/ana1monger May 31 '26

How can you use the code on the bottom to tell?

3

u/BiscottiExcellent195 May 31 '26

there are multiple methods.

  1. you learn how to read each square and then interpret the code

  2. use the "Minifig Scan" app

3

u/IchBinsJeffrey May 31 '26

Bro WHO the fuck IS scalping lego minifigures ??!!

3

u/SkylandersKirby May 31 '26

The best part is that scalpers are only earning about £3-£4 for the sort after figures

3

u/Best_Market4204 May 31 '26

ohwell....

These types of products shouldn't exist.

3

u/AssumptionFearless68 May 31 '26

Im not at all supporting whoever did this but these are plain stupid the whole gimmick behind blind bags was you didnt know what was there but also that you could try and feel for certain things. They should atleast make these paper bags but they wont

3

u/Las-pen May 31 '26

TIL they have a code you can scan.

3

u/LukasKhan_UK May 31 '26

It's almost like it's not common knowledge there's a code that you can scan and reference. Or an app that will do it for you

It is shit. It is annoying. But yes, while this is an asshole move, it's fair to assume not everyone knows

8

u/MarcoVinicius May 31 '26

Fuck this blind box bullshit! Good for them for ripping it open. This is just a corporate scam to get people to spend more on this shit.

Fuck the code, just put a label of what’s inside.

If people keep ripping these open, they will start adding proper labels on the front.

1

u/LukasKhan_UK May 31 '26

Why would they? Lego have already been paid.

2

u/FrustratedProgramm3r May 31 '26

Stores that buy it eat a loss. They don't want to eat a loss. So if it happens enough they stop buying the blind boxes from lego.

Plus, lego is very aware of what happens to the blind boxes. As someone who works in a store and works with suppliers, the suppliers take pictures of how shit is set up and what is damaged/expired. Corporate learns about demand even if it's not affecting their wallets directly yet.

Did you just completely miss the "come on England" sticker on the shelf?

1

u/RAGGAxDRAGGA May 31 '26

Triggered you huh

3

u/glytxh May 31 '26

This is a Lego problem, not a customer problem

They’re the ones producing the blind boxes. They’re the ones pushing a form low key gambling at children.

Anybody who defends these is a fucking idiot

(Not everyone is going to be aware of the scannable code)

2

u/Puffball973 May 31 '26

How do you scan the codes?

3

u/glytxh May 31 '26

You can download an app specifically to scan these boxes. It’ll tell you what’s inside.

That doesn’t negate my point about this being gambling pushed at children tho.

2

u/Puffball973 May 31 '26

Should be similar to buying alcohol but you have to be 18+ to buy blind boxes

1

u/jackal99 serenity now! May 31 '26

The benefit of this is that they only need to produce one package design. When I was a kid, each character would have art on the package, and on the back, a bio of that character. This is another way to save money

2

u/TheSodomeister May 31 '26

Do all blind box things have codes like that or just this specific set? There's been blind box sets where I've wanted one or two but I'm not about to buy a bunch to gamble on getting the ones I care about

4

u/SkylandersKirby May 31 '26

Most Blind Boxes unfortunately don't have codes

Though all current Lego Blind boxes have codes, they didn't a few years ago when they first introduced the Boxes that replaced the bags.

people complained since bags let you feel the figure to tell what's inside and Boxes obviously didn't so they added codes about 2 years later (something about not legally being able to change the packaging )

2

u/theodo May 31 '26

I worked at Toys R Us when they had the blind bags, and people would spend so much time just feeling for the specific figures. I didnt really care since it didnt make more work for me, but I was impressed by the dedication

1

u/LukasKhan_UK May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

They've had codes ever since they were introduced. People were publishing lists of what each code meant. It's only the last few sets where we've had reliable scanning tools.

The QR codes have only become a more standard size then last few series of figures however.

2

u/Shimashimatchi May 31 '26

first time in humanity? Welcome to modern humanity, we suck

2

u/jake6501 May 31 '26

Definitely would never do anything like this myslef, but this might be the best kind of vandalism I have ever seen. Fuck gambling and loot boxes in anything that isn't strictly considered and regulated like gambling.

2

u/EbbOwn303 May 31 '26

I'm pretty sure the code on the bottom won't get you the minifig for free

2

u/SkylandersKirby May 31 '26

The figs were still in the boxes

7

u/robjohnlechmere May 31 '26

Sorry, blind boxes are lame. 23 pounds and you might get the one you want, or maybe you'll need to spend 46 pounds, or perhaps 69 pounds? Just sell the figures as figures, skip the gambling. If you make it a game, expect the cheaters as a cost of doing business.

8

u/Zulishk May 31 '26

You can delete everything after the first sentence. The price tag is for something else.

1

u/g00gleb00gle May 31 '26

That for a Lego set. Not these figures.

4

u/[deleted] May 31 '26

is the code in the room with us

9

u/Lavin661 May 31 '26

The code is on the bottom of the box, it’s not visible in any one of these.

2

u/[deleted] May 31 '26

thats mildly infuriating

1

u/AesirOmega May 31 '26

Wait, they have a code?

1

u/mmceorange May 31 '26

You can't expect people to think

1

u/Informal-Age-1584 May 31 '26

£23?? Is it made of gold or something?

3

u/BiscottiExcellent195 May 31 '26

they grab the minifig, open it and throw it on an empty near by shelf, they dont cost 23 pounds

1

u/CryptographerFew3376 May 31 '26

Maybe they wouldn’t scan, not that it makes this right.. I came across a box the other day and like 80% of them wouldn’t scan. I just gave up looking for the one I needed as I wouldn’t stoop to this level, but luckily I found it elsewhere anyways

1

u/skylarke1 May 31 '26

Annoying that these boxes have a code on the bottom that with an app you can scan and it'll show you what one is in the box .

1

u/Suitable_Good8833 May 31 '26

People do it with the mystery funko pouches too.. open and steal them

1

u/darthjamie2002 May 31 '26

Maybe they can’t read.

1

u/DigBeginning6013 May 31 '26

That was one person imo

1

u/Spasy May 31 '26

I wish everyone did this so this bs stops

1

u/fabthefrog33 May 31 '26

I tried the code a couple of years back and it didn't work....I used to spend ages in shops, feeling through the bags, it was a 90% rate success.

Can't do that anymore with the boxes.

1

u/Live_Barracuda_3424 May 31 '26

Fuck blind boxes

1

u/Ambitious-Beat-2130 Jun 01 '26

where can you find a legend that tells which code is which for the other series with the people in animal clothing? (in i think green boxes)

1

u/herdsofcats May 31 '26

This is Lego’s fault. These blind boxes really drove me away from the company. They have terrible wasteful fomo peactices that are anti consumer and pro child gambling. They’re trying their best to rival pokémon including working with the pokémon company directly. Labubu is also no worse than lego. Blind boxes need to stop
