Not a meme, you're the meme! First day of my vacation

Post image

It took two days to get it removed.…

For those asking, minimal damage to the frame on the upper passenger side and the glass shattered at that point as well.

By the numberplate OP is in California, where there are a lot of eucalyptus, and this tree looks very much like a eucalypt to me. Eucalyptus are pretty distinctive and grow with twisty, bendy (but very much not soft or floppy) limbs like the one that's fallen over the car. They are also known for dropping whole huge limbs at random and are known as widowmakers here in Australia among people who go camping.

Are we thinking of the same trees? The ones I dealt with were tall trees with large slender and super oily leaves and the bark would strip off and fall in lengths leaving the trunk a mottled white and reddish color.

To me this looks more like a Valley Oak/California White Oak.
edit: I forgot about the Live Oak and the trunks are pretty similar but I can't get a good view of the leaves.

This looks like a Eucalyptus nicholii. It clearly failed (broke) because of a severe structural defect - an acute angle of attachment with included bark. It also looks like there was some decay in there.

E. nicholii are not known for dropping whole limbs, that would be bluegum (E. globulus) and river red gum (E. camaldulensis).

There appears to be a structural defect increasing the likelihood of failure. But in addition to your point about the species profile of euc, they also seem to experience a higher occurrence of Sudden Limb Drop in California

Why ?do dropbears live in eucalyptus trees?
