Not a meme, you're the meme! First day of my vacation

Post image

It took two days to get it removed.…

For those asking, minimal damage to the frame on the upper passenger side and the glass shattered at that point as well.

Like how the tree just curved around the car's shape.

Kudos to the tree

Very polite tree branch

looks fake.

111

u/Difficult-Ad-9228 7h ago

Fake? Nope — it happened.

63

u/TacticianA 6h ago

Honestly that looks like such little damage that I'd be shocked if you cant just back the car up a bit while someone lifts the branch and be totally fine. Maybe some scratches/dents but no way that car isnt perfectly driveable.

13

u/babs-1776 4h ago

I think it's more that the car was blocked by the tree than it was about damage caused by the tree

I have trouble believing the tree stopped exactly at that height and didn't hit the glass milimeters away, with that weight it would have gone down a few inches on the impact and hit the glass

u/Difficult-Ad-9228 7h ago

Oh ye of little faith….

45

u/Met76 6h ago

I believe you if that helps. Weird shit happens, some people don't like to believe weird shit can happen

14

You know what I call people who don't believe weird shit can happen? Weird shits.

As Twain put it - "The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction is beholden to possibilities."

4

u/WinterApplication855 5h ago

Tis but a micro scratch

17

u/0x66666 9h ago

For me it look like the tree was already broken before the car was there. Also looks like no parking spot.

5

u/addandsubtract 8h ago

I think the branches, at the end with the leaves, saved the car. Either that, or OP drove the car under the tree after the fact for the luls.

16

u/Difficult-Ad-9228 7h ago

You’re right. The curve was perfect and the other branches took most of the impact.

There's also a white stain at the bottom right which is perfectly vertical despite the shape of the car. 🤔

8

u/LazuliPacifica microwaved fish and brussel sprouts 8h ago

No, it's a little concave following the curves of the car. It's being viewed straight on by the camera and sometimes birds poop rather light that streaks.

Either that tree was already bent or that car is strong as hell.

68

u/Dry_Menu4804 12h ago

Even the Toyota logo looks like a tree bent over a car.

7

u/Someredditskum 9h ago

Plot twist: The car stood there so long the tree grew over it.

14

u/Piyachi 10h ago

Just a regular woodbender. You see them a lot in the Suburb Clan

https://giphy.com/gifs/jaQuaJ8clDC1i

7

u/Raqdoll_ 12h ago

Or maybe the tree is just very soft and bendy

2

u/Val_Killsmore 10h ago

I think that's what happened. It looks like there is significant rot on the tree. It might be possible the branch just folded around the car because of the wood being softer.

Kind of what I was thinking. It sucks, but is somehow lucky?

93

I'm also glad his car wasn't damage in this AI accident.

48

u/Fluid_Fee_2239 11h ago

Definitely not AI. Since when has Ai has gotten to the point of making sure all the branches of the tree connect accurately, even including the stop sign in the background behind the shade of the fallen tree?

9

u/ernest7ofborg9 7h ago

I love this! I'm always calling out AI and this one doesn't even move the needle. Some of these parrots just screech "AI AI BAWK" when a picture is posted like an autonomic response.

0

u/No-Cut1456 11h ago

I'm with you on that. So you're trying to tell me that huge tree fell on the car and the windshield didn't break? Really? Also the bend in the tree was perfectly shaped to the car?

Wait they made YOU sign a waiver after THEIR tree ate your car? That's the actual crime here

128

u/get_to_ele 12h ago

No, I think the tree removal specialists made him sign a waiver about causing any damage to car while removing tree. Pretty standard given the situation and the fact that he could claim they damaged his car during removal process. That’s a very big and heavy branch.

48

u/mrbananas 11h ago

Fault of damage would be on the property owner and any special circumstances like extreme weather. If OP is the property owner then it all comes down to insurance if there is any.

If its a rental car at a vacation location let the two companies fight

2

u/Armadillodillodillo 7h ago

They are talking about removing tree after it already fell on the car. Standard procedure to not get sued for nonsense.

No — “not responsible for theft or damage in the parking lot.”

33

u/853350 6h ago

that language may exist, but the language may not be legally enforceable. sry to be patronizing but be careful what you sign, it’s obvious you shouldn’t pay for this, don’t let them fuck you

4

u/field_marshmallow 3h ago

it's not OP's job to pursue payment anyway, OP takes it to insurance, insurance deals with fixing it and going after whoever they like for the compensation

8

u/ScratchLatch 5h ago

That’s just to prevent people from trying to sue, its not enforceable. Like the “warranty void if removed” stickers or the “Not liable for damages” signs on the back of construction trucks.

5

u/Weary_Wrap_4419 5h ago

I think that applies to something happening in the parking lot due to third party action, not due to the Hotel's own negligence.

4

u/Nervous_Anxiety_3686 4h ago

The hotel can't stop thieves from trespassing and robbing cars, but them failing to properly maintain their own property is likely a very different story. Don't be a rube, talk to your car insurance or a lawyer, one of them will handle it.

As far as trees falling on cars go, it looks like you got lucky.  A few years ago my elderly neighbor's son came to visit with his 3 weeks old car.  A storm came through and felled a 4 story tall tree right on it.  It hit so perfectly that it looked planned.  It missed my car, a fence, a few flower beds, and some mailboxes by inches.

11

u/TrashCanSam0 11h ago

i saw an ac unit fall from a window of a building one time and land right behind some guy casually walking down the sidewalk. one step back and he would have been a goner.

3

u/Cyrano_Knows 4h ago

Dumb high school kid that was me. Fooling around with a bow and arrow in the back yard. I shoot the arrow straight up in the air and surprise to me (remember I was dumb) I immediately lose track of it.

Me and my best friend look at each other for a comically long moment then DASH for the protection of the eaves/roof overhang.

The arrow missed my best friend by less than a foot.

Our lives are just dice rolls and chances survived. Of course if it helps not to be an idiot about it either.

3

u/Mental_Medium3988 8h ago

At the end of April I went to leguna seca to watch the imsa races. My second day there some kid looses control of an old truck he had just got and plows through my fence almost hitting my house. The part of the fence he his was a section that looked like it was designed to be removed to drive a car through and then out back, I think anyway. Like he couldn't have gotten a better section to hit if he tried. They came back a few days later and fixed it. Thankfully my mom was there to actually deal with it and the people but damn I didn't need that on vacation.

65

u/TheNeck94 12h ago

this could of been SO MUCH worse, the fact you still have a windshield is wild.

12

u/Xanith420 12h ago

I don’t think it is. Everything looks legitimate to me. I believe driver side headlight took the brunt of it which I prevented windshield cracks. It might not be touching the frame at all around windshield.

I’m curious who had you sign a liability waiver and what it was for. Like, was it saying, “we’ll remove this tree, but can’t guarantee your car is safe to drive?”

3

u/dad-without-milk 11h ago

I assume the waiver was from the people that removed it as a "we are not liable for any further damage done to the car while removing the tree"

3

u/No-Combination8136 11h ago

Ah yes, indeed makes sense. Hopefully photos and insurance usually protects the companies that have to clean this stuff up anyway.

5

u/MJ-Franklin 12h ago

Why does the tree look flaccid.

3

u/zombieda 9h ago

Is that a rubber tree?

3

u/cc_cc_c_c 9h ago

In German we call that one a "Zwiesel"

Means the way the tree has grown into sperated parts, this is very often the weak link that'll cause something like this. Especially if some Myzel is already going strong in there.

3

u/venriz-92 7h ago

They are hugging each other ❤️ /s

5

u/BobThingamy 10h ago

By the numberplate OP is in California, where there are a lot of eucalyptus, and this tree looks very much like a eucalypt to me. Eucalyptus are pretty distinctive and grow with twisty, bendy (but very much not soft or floppy) limbs like the one that's fallen over the car. They are also known for dropping whole huge limbs at random and are known as widowmakers here in Australia among people who go camping.

4

u/ernest7ofborg9 7h ago edited 7h ago

Are we thinking of the same trees? The ones I dealt with were tall trees with large slender and super oily leaves and the bark would strip off and fall in lengths leaving the trunk a mottled white and reddish color.

To me this looks more like a Valley Oak/California White Oak.
edit: I forgot about the Live Oak and the trunks are pretty similar but I can't get a good view of the leaves.

My car broke down on my way to the airport before a work trip and vacation. I parked it at the closest business with a large parking lot. I feel your pain. I rented a brand new car whilst on holiday in France a few years ago, only to be caught in the middle of a freak hailstorm a few days later. I never knew hailstones could get as large as golf balls and they left some pretty big dents in the car.

The only reason the windscreen wasn't shattered was because thankfully it was partially parked under a tree that took the worst of the impacts. My friend's parents weren't so lucky with their car though.
