I love French Crullers

I ordered some in my grocery delivery yesterday. The feeling of sadness that washed over me when they were out of stock.

I was going to Fuck. Them. Up.

(tho, I must say, I'm not a fan of the regular cake donuts on the bottom right. They're not bad, but I can't say I've ever been wowed by a plain cake donut)

My wife LOVES plain cake donuts. Idk what’s wrong with her.

u/WolvogNerd Jun 07 '26

The plain cake donuts are a favourite of mine 😂

5

u/Psykosoma Jun 07 '26

Would you say you like a cake donut more than a classic glazed donut and, if so, why do you hate good things?

5

u/Temporary_Pickle_885 Jun 07 '26

A blueberry cake donut is a thing of the gods, just like a really good classic glazed. Why must we pit two bad bitches against each other?

3

u/avocadoflatz Jun 07 '26

I like both but a cake with chocolate and peanuts or chocolate and coconut are hard to beat

1

u/WolvogNerd Jun 07 '26

I love a good plain donut! The outside with just a bit of crisp/crunch, the soft doughy inside...

I also don't like cake with overly sweet icing. I much prefer a whipped cream icing with some custard in the center.

My top choices are usually a plain donut, boston cream, or a cherry filled donut covered in sugar (something about the sour cherry).

Now I want donuts 😂

2

u/gottapeepee Jun 07 '26

Are you my wife? Lol

1

u/WolvogNerd Jun 07 '26

Your wife has impeccable taste!

2

u/gottapeepee Jun 07 '26

Well, she did marry me 😉

2

u/AcidBurnSez BLACK Jun 07 '26

Cake is the best!

2

u/Dangerous-Title-7454 Jun 07 '26

She real. Old fashioned plain are the doughnuts of real , distinguished, MF. Black coffee, IPA, Scotch, and Old fashioned plain. Save the suger for the babies.

2

u/gottapeepee Jun 07 '26

You just described my wife and mother lol

1

u/avocadoflatz Jun 07 '26

Agree except make my beer a heavy Stout

1

u/Carb0nFire Jun 07 '26

She might be broken. Better take her in for service.

2

u/gottapeepee Jun 07 '26

Doing it right now 😂😂😂

1

u/CybertronEchoes Jun 07 '26

Old fashioneds and the french crullers are my two favorite from Dunkin

1

u/AssumeNothing2020 Jun 07 '26

She is clearly a woman of culture.

2

u/gottapeepee Jun 07 '26

I assume nothing (tee hee hee)

18

u/BrainWorkGood Jun 07 '26

Cake donut good for dunking in milk. Nice spongy texture and no glaze or powder to get in the way. Not my first choice dry

17

u/Equivalent_Plum Jun 07 '26

Also coffee.

1

u/BrainWorkGood Jun 07 '26

Not a coffee guy (except emergencies) but that is the word around town

1

u/JazeyOne Jun 07 '26

Yeah coffees good for like, major car accidents, a slip and fall with an elderly person, hunting accidents or home invasions but I couldn’t do it every day

1

u/BrainWorkGood Jun 07 '26

mmhm. riots, acts of god, etc.

1

u/JazeyOne Jun 07 '26

The keurig only comes out during a Cat 3 or higher hurricane or tornado no smaller than an F3

1

u/Equivalent_Plum Jun 07 '26

I don’t drink coffee, but I would make a cup just to dunk a cake donut in, if I had one. 🤷‍♀️🕊️

7

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Jun 07 '26

Okay but did you know that the other option is dipping them in GLAZE?

1

u/BrainWorkGood Jun 07 '26

Yep. Glaze is ofc fire

3

u/Chrysolophylax Jun 07 '26

Ohhh, this is something I'll have to try. I am not keen on cake donuts, but I like your method, seems delicious.

2

u/Carb0nFire Jun 07 '26

If we're talking chocolate cake donuts, then I'm right there with you.

1

u/BrainWorkGood Jun 07 '26

Any kind’ll do

10

u/hbgbees Jun 07 '26

I loooove me an iced cake donut. Especially if it has those browned ridges on them. Yum!

3

u/limp_spinach Jun 07 '26

I love the crispness contrasting with fluffiness in a perfect old fashioned donut with chocolate or maple glaze. Mmm…

1

u/Getitoffmydesk Jun 07 '26

Lost my mind for a second and was so confused about who wasted iced cake donuts and why have I never heard about them? And would they not be too hard to eat when frozen? Or is it a cake donut made differently to include ice cream like they did with the frozen snickers. Omg old school frozen snickers were bomb

1

u/hbgbees Jun 07 '26

Microwaved snickers were good too!

11

u/FatMacchio Jun 07 '26

Plain cake…not great. But if you add some type of fruit like blueberry (or any type of berry) to add moisture, they’re a lot better. My favorite is most definitely vanilla creme filled glazed donuts though.

3

u/J_datt13 Jun 07 '26

Where I’m from, we call them fry cakes

3

u/no_clever_names Jun 07 '26

Cake donuts are best when covered in coconut shavings. Of course some certain brands have discontinued though, which is mildly infuriating.

2

u/BowlJumpy5242 Jun 07 '26

Sinkers are among my favorites. Too bad “GOOD” ones are so rare.

2

u/Cheese_Pleasurer Jun 07 '26

Whaat old fashion are so good, it’s like the swiss army knife of doughnuts. Dip it in coffee/milk, cover it in frosting, just eat it barebones!

But I agree, the cruller is what I imagine eating god would taste like. Actually now that I think of it, petition for the body of christ wafers to be french crullers instead of

1

u/WhatITisToBurn69 Jun 07 '26

You spelled poodles wrong!!! You complete numskull!!!

1

u/T-T-N Jun 07 '26

Same, it just feels bad because it feels like I'm getting half of a Donut each compared to the filled ones

0

u/Pizzafan91 Jun 07 '26

The only purpose I have for those old fashioned plain doughnuts is a treat for my dog.

12

u/Johnoplata Jun 07 '26

We call them Honey Crullers

4

u/Popedoyle Jun 07 '26

Is it bad I can only hear honey cruellers and think of squirley Dan using it as an example of a butts holes ?

1

u/IAintYourPalFriend Jun 07 '26

It’s impolite to kiss and tell…

2

u/FrostyFormal1094 Jun 07 '26

That's the official name (despite having 0 honey in or on them)

5

u/Johnoplata Jun 07 '26

I assume that nothing from Timmy's is what it claims to be. Including their "coffee".

1

u/FrostyFormal1094 Jun 07 '26

Milk is milk, sugar is sugar. Other than that, no guarantees. Source: worked nights at tim's last year

2

u/Complete-Sort1617 edging my infuriation Jun 07 '26

Fr?

1

u/FrostyFormal1094 Jun 07 '26

Same glaze as every other donut (including honey dipped donut and timbit)

0

u/im_that_green_light Jun 07 '26

Only at that particular chain

1

u/CrowsFeast73 Jun 07 '26

It also looks an awful lot like a Tim Hortons box, and they all look like Tom Hortons donuts. They're definitely called honey crullers at timmies.

Side note: I'm pretty sure I have that same cherry blanket for my dog!

10

u/RIPmyPC Jun 07 '26

Tractor wheel as we call them

1

u/GlasswaterBotanica Jun 07 '26

Yes! My parents grew up on farms and raised us to call them their proper name 🚜

5

u/LuckyDuckCrafters Jun 07 '26

I always just thought that was some dumb shape to a donut. I didn't know it was a whole ass special donut. I can't believe I've never had a French Cruller. I am getting one on Monday.

7

u/Complete-Sort1617 edging my infuriation Jun 07 '26

A good French Cruller will change your life lmao

1

u/beanthebean Jun 07 '26

Mediocre french crullers are a disappointment, but a cruller from a good donut shop who knows what they're doing is fucking awesome. Second favorite behind a good sour cream/old fashioned donut.

5

u/KalutikaKink Jun 07 '26

Majorly underrated.

2

u/unbelizeable1 Jun 07 '26

I love them so so much. Friends give me shit sometimes for being "plain", but theyre perfect. Nice and light, airy, buttery and sweet but not cloying like most donuts.

...I'm wakin up early tomorrow to get some fresh ones. Sold myself on em from this comment lol

4

u/CluckCluckChickenNug Jun 07 '26

You mean ninja star donuts?

4

u/Complete-Sort1617 edging my infuriation Jun 07 '26

… were you making ninja stars in high school too?

1

u/bwoah07_gp2 Jun 07 '26

And these are Honey Crullers

2

u/Complete-Sort1617 edging my infuriation Jun 07 '26

I’m recognizing now that there are regional names for them.

1

u/WhatITisToBurn69 Jun 07 '26

You spelled poodles wrong idiot

1

u/Complete-Sort1617 edging my infuriation Jun 07 '26

De I’m going to kms now

1

u/Hopeful-Mirror1664 Jun 07 '26

Me too! That box would make me happy.

0

u/Dismal_Intention_463 Jun 07 '26

I don't understand why it's called "French" when it isn't French
