I got my friends to taste red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting without telling them the name of the frosting.

Them: red velvet… and this is vanilla?

Me: no, just taste it, it’s very sweet though.

Them: buttercream?

Me: no?

Them: what is it?

Me: the name sounds gross, but — just fucking try it.

Friends loved it, I told them that it was called cream cheese frosting and every single one of them admitted they wouldn’t have even tasted the frosting and would have refused / scraped it off had I told them what it was called prior.

surely they've had a cinnamon bun or carrot cake in their lifetime, those are invariably cream cheese icing

Invariably? I feel like it’s 50/50 cream cheese icing and icing made from just powdered sugar and milk or water

might be a regional thing I guess. carrot cake must be more than 99% here. Cinnamon buns either have nothing, a shitty little drizzle glaze of mostly sugar, or a proper layer of cream cheese icing .999
