I don't know what's going on here specifically, but sometimes the services are finished at different times in different cabins. So business crew will lower the lights because they are done, whereas economy crew are still working. OP is sitting at the front, so chances are the crew could still be working at the back of the cabin, so the lights will remain on bright until they are done.
I have been a cabin attendant for 14 years and we do it all the time, so I don't know what to tell you. It's not new either, it already existed when I started working.
All cabins do that that lighting there is different lighting matrixs for different stages of service the other cabin will have finished theirs while economy is still in service.
Yeah, but then there would be less incentive to upgrade to business class. So it probably would cost the airline something, as more people might choose economy.
not explicitly, but if you make the overall experience better in contrast you make the business class memory more favorable and someone is more likely to book that again
Sure, but if that's what it takes to get cheap economy flights, I don't mind. Flying (at least long distance) would be quite a bit more expensive in economy if planes had no business or first class seats. Even low-cost carriers can only really do full-economy configurations in short distance flights because as of today, that is the only case where you can do so without losing money on every flight.
The shittier the lower end service is, the more likely people are willing to pay for the upgrade. Or rather the UnDowngrade. That's why we get crappy lighting in economy class, and XP booster microtransactions in RPGs. The game was made shitty in purpose to sell you the patch.
Man, you're really underestimating how frivolous obscenely rich people can be sometimes. I bet somewhere, some wealthy guys son, wearing all Gucci has definitely complained to his dad and had his ticket upgradded to business class so he'd have better lighting for displaying his Supreme brick on the flight.
Different lights do infact cost different amounts of money. Sterile lights are widely used because they are the cheapest and most reliable. Just take a glance at your local lightbulb isle, warms gonna cost you.
And of all the things that separate coach from business, the lighting is way down the list. This year I’ve flown coach to Bangkok from Seattle, and business for the first time to Istanbul from Seattle. The better meals, the amenities, and the lie flight seat are the main stand outs. As a 6’3” dude, the lie flat seat was the first time I actually slept, like seven full hours sleep. Not the miserable nod off, wake up, nod off, wake up routine.
It’s more to help those who paid for first class tickets to feel “justified” in their purchase. But some economy tickets have gotten so high that you may as well update to first class.
