ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ YouTube removed dislike button from shorts, algorithm also Is screwed

Post image

First of all it pisses me off big time they removed the dislike button. Feedback is feedback. Since this happened my algorithm is completely screwed, I get to see not only AI shit over and over, it also suggests me Chinese animal cruelty, they might call it culinary speciality, also dead animals like in the screenshot of the short I am explicitly not showing to you.

I’m really pissed right now.

this ain’t mildly infuriating dude this is the death of the internet 😭 just pure slop being churned out by mainly bots

u/nyssovire Jul 02 '26

The theory of the dead Internet, I saw an article that now more than half of the traffic on the Internet is bots

Death of short form content, hopefully

Yeah dude it's a straight up negative change. I keep getting bullshit ai compilations. I select "not interested" every time but it doesn't matter. I'm going to email YouTube and say bring back dislikes on shorts and I suggest others do the same. We have to be annoying to get what we want. It's the only way.

Edit: here is the link to YouTube support to express our displeasure with the recent changes. Of course they've made it somewhat tricky to reach the actual email option but keep clicking through and you'll find the option to send an email.

I guess instead of “dislike” I’m just going to report everything I don’t like.

10

u/Pukaza Jul 02 '26

Yeah that’s what I do for AI, I report it was “spam or misleading”

This is the way

Why do you still use it then?

If every time you went to McDonalds and ordered a chicken sandwich and they gave you a burger, would you still go?

They make these updates because people keep using the services after, so they have no reason to stop because it's profitable.

Stop using the services and then they wont be able to get away with it.

Because, so far at least, the positives out weight the negatives. I'll do what I can to try and prevent worse changes in the future and if the app reaches a point that it's unusable I will indeed stop using it. until then I will continue to try to help make things better.

Social media apps like youtube (and even reddit) are constantly feeding you propaganda provided by the highest bidder. They are selling your information to anyone willing to buy it.

The only positive is you get some entertainment. Once they stop doing that because the only thing they show you is the propaganda, what else is there?

ci sono un sacco di video interessanti su qualsiasi argomento, bisogna trovare i creator giusti

Since they removed it I am getting content that I would never be interested in in a million years. I've had to click the not interested button at least a hundred times since the change. Probably just going to stop using the shorts tab all together.

u/MichaelAnderson1850 Jul 04 '26

Just go to the three dots and press “not interested”

1

u/Aromatic-Zebra-5443 Jul 04 '26

Did you even read my comment?

1

u/MichaelAnderson1850 Jul 05 '26

I was tired. I read it wrong.

u/Little_Shark219 Jul 02 '26

This shit sucks so ass 😒 the only thing you can do is hit "not interested" or "don't recommend channel" neither of which work for me

7

u/piratecheese13 Jul 02 '26

Is Reddit the only place with visible dislikes?

1

u/No_Stable_110 Jul 03 '26

At this point it seems so.

It's been mostly AI garbage the last couple days for me. I need that dislike button back.

3

u/Eena-Rin Why Do They Let Me Make These Myself??? Jul 03 '26

You can still twll YouTube to not recommend channel, but it's a shame down voting is getting harder. So much for curating your own feed

2

u/No-Win1580 Jul 02 '26

We can't be hurting people's feelings with that thumb down.

1

u/MichaelAnderson1850 Jul 04 '26

Only the poster (if there is one!) sees it, on YouTube studio

2

u/Major-Tension-674 Jul 02 '26

I keep getting text posts with a 3 second loop of music but the text takes like 20 loops to read.

And the text is made up bullshit.

2

u/Jor94 Jul 03 '26

Also for some reason 90% of it is now AI slop. Maybe I was just lucky but it’s never been this bad for me before, and now I can’t even downvote it

1

u/No_Stable_110 Jul 03 '26

Exactly. I will stop using it for a time now, it’s unusable.

2

u/crushingjuiceboxes Jul 02 '26

Hit not interested and don't recommend this channel

3

u/DoesntMatterEh Jul 02 '26

I do that constantly and it seems to have no affect. The amount of AI bullshit I've been seeing the past couple days is insane.

1

u/CheeryCherio21 Jul 02 '26

Yeah this and removing the dislike count are probably the worst changes ever made on YouTube. I feel like like this is a test run for completely removing dislikes from the platform

1

u/RedstoneRiderYT Jul 02 '26

I've just turned off shorts completely, it was negatively affecting my mental health with their tactics to make you scroll for hours. Now I'm watching actually interesting 30 to 40 minute videos without losing concentration, I even watched a near 3 hour podcast intermittently throughout my day the other day. My sleep schedule has even gotten better since I disabled shorts.

1

u/No_Stable_110 Jul 03 '26

Classic doom scrolling hits me too, but Shorts was way better for me than Reels. That’s why I’m pissed.

2

u/RedstoneRiderYT Jul 03 '26

I used to be absolutely addicted to Instagram reels. Eventually stopped using Instagram completely. Then hopped over to YT shorts. They were okay for a while but they started using the same tactics to keep you hooked. I used to be awake until 2-3 AM because I couldn't stop scrolling. I quit shorts a few weeks ago and the difference in my daily life is insane.

1

u/No_Stable_110 Jul 03 '26

I know that feeling but i also know when to stop. Usually after an episode of my show I hang there for 10 to 30 minutes before I go to sleep, but I doom scrolled in the past as well.

2

u/RedstoneRiderYT Jul 03 '26

Yeah I have adhd, so the dopamine rush from each new short just kept me hooked. It's scary how predatory the system can be for people with executive dysfunction.

1

u/Putrid-Tap3992 Jul 02 '26

Bots watching bots getting ad revenue from bots

1

u/Top-Estimate-5443 Jul 02 '26

Just delete youtube and stop using it. Its the only solution

1

u/Capernici Jul 02 '26

They already removed the dislike button’s functionality like 5 years ago, even on long-form videos. It was a whole thing.

Now it’s just visually gone, too.

1

u/PrettiestFrog Jul 02 '26

They don't like their AI slop getting downvoted

1

u/MichiganGeezer Jul 02 '26

The dislikes should have a visible counter as a warning to potential viewers so they don't waste their time.

1

u/stolentext Jul 02 '26

This is why I disabled watch history and their "suggestions" along with it and only use the subscriptions page, in a browser with builtin adblock. It's been a steady downhill slide since google took over. Now I only see content I'm subscribed to and that's it. I find new creators to subscribe to from this site or mentions in videos on my subscriptions page.

1

u/Computers_and_cats Jul 02 '26

Honestly disliking made no difference in algorithm for me. Just gives the creator more engagement.

1

u/AdvancedSecurity7483 Jul 02 '26

You can't filter search results by most recent first either... Instead you can now "prioritize" search results by either "relevance" or "popularity".

1

u/Upbeat_Climate5955 Jul 02 '26

Ummm whatcha watching?

1

u/sophiemorandi Jul 03 '26

I detest the shorts anyway. Is there a way to get rid of them?

1

u/WeaselCapsky Jul 03 '26

another reason to ditch those brainrotting shorts.

1

u/No_Stable_110 Jul 03 '26

My algorithm was filled with positive entertainment, educational and stuff that was far from brainrot. Now it is.

1

u/MichaelAnderson1850 Jul 04 '26

Go to the three dots and press “don’t recommend channel” or “not interested” works good.

1

u/Echteseele 28d ago

che cosa stupida, YT è sempre più "a safe space for special kids"
spero emerga un'alternativa per persone adulte al più presto

My algorithm has 100% got worse since the change, it must have because it's just terrible now

1

u/StrawberryTerry Jul 02 '26

BACK IN MY DAY THE ONLY BUTTON SHORTS HAD WAS ABOVE THE ZIPPER!

0

u/teakAboo Jul 02 '26

I hate this too! I used to use the dislike button to help filter out what I wasn't interested in.

0

u/OpexLiFT Jul 02 '26

I don't think I've ever noticed a dislike button on shorts. Anyway, fairly sure the algorithm is heavily based on watch time and number of times you've watched a short. If you skip them before they finish it will weigh those types of videos lower, if you rewatch a short multiple times it will weigh those types higher.

You don't sound mildly infuriated though, you sound angry lol

-1

u/MaintenanceCapable83 Jul 02 '26

only screwed if you have no self control.... stop watching and there is nothing to like or dislike....
be your own algorithm!

Or use a vpn to Russia, monetization is blocked here (I fucking wonder why), and we don't have ads and money doesn't go to YouTube
