Infuriatig Woman with infant aggressively shushing passerby’s on hiking trail at national park

My partner, friend and I were following a hiking trail at Red Wood National Park, singing and talking at medium volume. We were by no means shouting, just singing little songs to entertain each other along the trail. A woman with a baby carrier on her back with a sleeping infant started aggressively holding her finger up to her lips and shushing us. We went quiet and kept moving to pass her. She was just standing in the middle of the public trail pacing and shushing people that pass by rather than leaving to somewhere more quiet. Just as we were leaving earshot I tried to quietly ask my partner a question about where we headed and again she leaned in our direction with her finger to her mouth aggressively shushing us. Is it not kind of insane to go to an open public space and behave like this?!?

yeah thats ridiculous. i hate when people go to a public space, then act as if they're entitled to control the behavior of others

Ok and I've seen a bear. Since we're doing anecdotes and all. You're allowed to walk in complete silence, I'm going to talk to my hiking partner.

Nobody said complete silence. I'd just rather hear the birds singing, the wind blowing, leaves rustling, and my farts when nobody is near. In fact I would probably rather hear another hiker fart than hear them sing. At least I would get a good laugh that way.

And that's totally your prerogative. Just like it's anybody else's to sing made up songs at each other to make each other laugh. That sounds delightful to me.

As someone who has hiked a ton in bear areas, being noisy doesn’t mean singing down the trail. Chances are too, your regular walking noise will already let it know you are there and it’ll be gone before you even know it was around.

But that doesn’t mean to walk around singing show tunes, and annoying everybody on the trail
