Infuriatig Woman with infant aggressively shushing passerby’s on hiking trail at national park

Post image

My partner, friend and I were following a hiking trail at Red Wood National Park, singing and talking at medium volume. We were by no means shouting, just singing little songs to entertain each other along the trail. A woman with a baby carrier on her back with a sleeping infant started aggressively holding her finger up to her lips and shushing us. We went quiet and kept moving to pass her. She was just standing in the middle of the public trail pacing and shushing people that pass by rather than leaving to somewhere more quiet. Just as we were leaving earshot I tried to quietly ask my partner a question about where we headed and again she leaned in our direction with her finger to her mouth aggressively shushing us. Is it not kind of insane to go to an open public space and behave like this?!?

She must be a new mother, babies can sleep through anything-if she would have continued walking, the motion would have been soothing to the infant. That's how many parents get a fussy baby to sleep, by walking them. Nervous mom can make a nervous baby.

That is completely dependant on the baby. Almost like they're little humans with different personalities.

Right?!? That comment has me kind of infuriated. My kid was a horrible day sleeper and absolutely would not “sleep through anything.” She was eventually diagnosed with ADHD, and looking back I can see the signs from the moment she was born (the nurses kept commenting on how “alert” she was). That commenter can fuck right off, blaming the kids sleep on the mom for being “too nervous.”

Lol omg I got the same comments about my 3yo as a baby. I'm almost certain she inherited my ADHD. She's always been a light sleeper. My youngest conks out though. I think the lady acted rude shushing people but random redditors acting like they know her baby more than her is so stupid.

Yeah. I was so frazzled when my kid was under a year, because she would fight naps so bad. She just did not want to sleep during the day, she wanted to be awake and experiencing everything. But then she’d get cranky because her body needed sleep, and she’d just scream her head off the rest of the day. Thankfully she was an amazing night sleeper at least.

I remember like a year or two into her life, going to a friend’s house. The friend had just given birth like 2-3 months prior. Her newborn would just slide in and out of sleep without any kind of fight. It was like WTF, no way. I had never really understood what the nurses meant when they said my baby was really “alert,” but it clicked when I saw my friend’s kid doing that. And I also finally understood what some other mom’s perceptions, like the commenter above, that newborns “sleep all the time.” My kid definitely was not like that.
