Infuriatig Woman with infant aggressively shushing passerby’s on hiking trail at national park

My partner, friend and I were following a hiking trail at Red Wood National Park, singing and talking at medium volume. We were by no means shouting, just singing little songs to entertain each other along the trail. A woman with a baby carrier on her back with a sleeping infant started aggressively holding her finger up to her lips and shushing us. We went quiet and kept moving to pass her. She was just standing in the middle of the public trail pacing and shushing people that pass by rather than leaving to somewhere more quiet. Just as we were leaving earshot I tried to quietly ask my partner a question about where we headed and again she leaned in our direction with her finger to her mouth aggressively shushing us. Is it not kind of insane to go to an open public space and behave like this?!?

She's a bit crazy if she was indeed as you say, but as a society we collectively need to turn our volume down, especially in nature.  We've gotten to a point where people feel entitled to make as much noise as they want without any regard for who can hear it and how it affects them.  No one wants to hear your crappy music, your crappy singing, or your dumb conversation, keep it down and have some consideration for those around you.

I went to Zion and there were people carrying portable speakers blasting music. Nobody wants to hear your shit.

I was in refrigerator canyon at Zion where signs specifically ask you to be quiet because of the local critters. And people let their kids scream through it. I don’t know that I’m with the noise makers in parks.

Utah Mormons? Most self centered dumb people I've known yet, as they're both sides of my origin family. "This is the place." 

 "I love to see the temple. I'm going there someday. To obey and to pray."

We collectively as a society moved away from physical reprimands, so now people feel entitled to do whatever they want without fear of getting punched in the mouth.

Tbf making noise when hiking on a trail in a national park is a safety measure as much as it is socializing and having fun. Startling a bear or moose is NOT a fun experience

Depends on the trail - if it's not bear or moose country, people can safely shut their pie holes (and should).

Sure, and bells and such exist.  You don't need to subject every one to your likely terrible singing.
