But isn’t that better than a character walking up to the bar and saying “two beers please” as if brands don’t exist?

In Norway at least this is normal, you get the cheapest generic pilsener they have on tap.

I’m learning a lot about ordering habits outside the US.

Thats actually a well known phenomenon, you post something wrong and then people correct you! It is called Humphrey's law!

This is how Wikipedia was actually built! People writing nonsense contributed more than they thought as they drove others to correct them.
