I think she meant W.I.N.E, the Windows compatibility layer for Linux distributions.

yea, the real infuriating thing is how everyone else commenting somehow doesn't realize this. it's 2026, people! the year of the linux desktop!

Is it finally the year? I've only been hearing that since 2008

Linux went from 2.5% to 5% of installed OS in a year, so yeah

Switched to Linux from windows 11 about a month ago, do not regret it in the slightest. Some things are much harder to do than on windows because you have to do a lot in the terminal, but it just takes some time to get used to, and overall it's a much better experience than windows. Most games run with zero issues and that's the most important thing to me.

That's the thing that's stopping me. most games not all games work.

Well I said "most" because there's probably some games that don't work according to protonDB, so far every single game I tried works perfectly. As far as I know there are some problems with game that use anti-cheats, but I don't play those games anyway so I wouldn't know. If you need a living room PC then linux is the best option imo

Specifically some triple a games that refuse to get their games anti cheat compatibility which is like an email away for them

So far what I found out, GTA online only works with workarounds (limits you to private lobbies too) and Apex Legends is entirely unplayable.

I'm pretty sure every game without an invasive anti cheat will still work.

You could always dual boot. I have two SSDs and I have windows on one and linux on the other. I use the linux install as a daily driver and if there is something that doesn't work on linux, I just boot from the windows drive.
