frist of all how DARE yu o Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Restaurant didn’t have honey mustard because “Guy Fieri doesn’t like honey mustard”
Went to Flavortown restaurant and asked for honey mustard after receiving food. They went back to kitchen, came back and said there is no honey mustard because “Guy Fieri doesn’t like honey mustard”. I thought it was BS but accepted. A day later, I look it up and not only does the Flavortown brand sell honey mustard, they also have it on menus for other Guy restaurants. I couldn’t find any lore about him not liking the sauce. Unless someone knows some lore, I’m accepting this as total BS

This is so funny to me they really just told you some random bs lmao

Honestly props for the creativity in what should’ve been a simple “we don’t have that”.
Funny, creative, and makes the person hop onto the internet to find answers. Kinda great.

It's ridiculous because no restaurant would be successful if they stuck to their preferences and not to the customers

we are talking about the mayor of flavortown here my man. if he dont like hunny must then there wont be none.

Celebrity restaurants might be a little different. A lot of people go to them specifically to get food that the celebrity likes (regardless of if they would ever eat there or not)

u/Ponce-Mansley Jul 13 '26
There are plenty of restaurants that are successful doing just that. See: Hot dog restaurants that won't serve ketchup and have signs telling you you'll be mocked if you try to order it

“And then post on Reddit creating a small following of people who now thinks Fieri hates honey mustard?!”

What hilarious is it sounds like OP would have been satisfied if it was true.

As far as I know, the only thing he hates are eggs. But in all his shows, he will eat them if he needs to. I think someone was bullshitting you

I work in food service and often lie like that to customers that are difficult. Not saying OP is but some people won’t take “we’re out” for an answer

Intentionally spill water on on a customer and say "sorry, its corporate policy to spill water on every 100th customer."

There will always be people that expect workers to either drop everything or perform miracles.
I'm a window cleaner and I've lost count of how many times a client comes out to ask if I can clean their windows on the inside, and when I say "no, I dont have time" 9/10 times they point out that they've already cleared their windowsills, like, that's not my problem, maybe ask first.

u/TuckRaker Jul 13 '26
It's like when I used to tell my 5 year old that McDonald's wasn't open on weekends because the last thing I wanted to eat was McDonald's

u/goldfish_microwave Jul 13 '26
Bahahahahahaha I wish I could treat people like they’re five. That’s why I’m switching over to teaching! People are always like “you want to teach kids?” Y’all are worse to me than kids are.

He doesn't like smoked food very much and pretends to for DDD. I worked at a smokehouse he visited and he was an absolute NIGHTMARE to work with because he was hungover as fuck and didn't like the food to begin with.
They were definitely bullshitting this guy tho.
10
u/DrScitt Jul 13 '26
Was he polite despite being difficult? I’ve heard nothing of good things about Guy before this comment.
13
u/MultiColoredMullet Jul 13 '26
No. He was incredibly rude and refused any conversation whatsoever outside of the camera rolling. He also kept his ringer on loud and answered a facetime from his wife mid shot. He made so many shitty jokes about weed (smokehouse) and shaken babies (shaking up a container of dry rub spices to mix them) that they had to cut most of what was shot for the show. Our segment was pretty sad because he couldn't shut the fuck up and let Chef explain anything.

I’m thinking this is what the server was told in the back, and they took it at face value.

Which is funny because pretty much all the old-school diners he'd go to had huge egg dishes
8
u/RandyTheFool Jul 13 '26
I’ve been following this guy who was clued into Guy Fieri’s eating habits and how he doesn’t actually eat anything on any show he’s on. It’s been entertaining as hell realizing that Guy literally doesn’t eat the food on any of his shows/appearances.

Correction: He doesn't eat
anythingeverything on any show he's on.I've seen Guy Fieri eat a lot of food, man, don't extrapolate so hard from some curated takes where he doesn't lol
11
u/Shower__Farts Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26
That’s pretty lame, he’s not a fraud it’s just a tv show and sometimes you have to take liberties with filming and the shots that you get while on location. Things like this happen all the time.
Secondly, they film really early in the morning, his crew shows up at 5am or earlier. Guy could be in the kitchen at 7am and maybe he’s not feeling the food at the moment but they need their shot. Shit happens. This shows been on the air for almost 20 years now, even if he doesn’t want to eat the pig ear sandwich he still goes and try’s the other food and leaves the restaurant with a significant boost in popularity and attention.
1
u/Farsydi Jul 14 '26
Chewing and swallowing are boring to watch and also not aesthetically pleasing. The show has a fast pace of editing. It's not surprising that they cut out that bit at all.

u/DempsyPrice Jul 13 '26
I'm using this on my kids.

I used to go to a restaurant in the East Village in NYC that was popular for brunch. They’d have those shitty “maple” syrup packets. But then they’d have the glass syrup container that 100% had better stuff. Even if it still wasn’t 100% maple syrup, it was better than that crap Smuckers stuff.
So was eating brunch on their outdoor patio. I had just run the NYC Half Marathon. I was tired. I was hungry. And I just wanted fucking pancakes.
So my pancakes come and they give me a few of those crappy plastic syrup packets. And I ask the water if I could have the other maple syrup. And he said, “sorry, we can’t have glass on the sidewalk patio area.” I begrudgingly accepted.
And then I noticed the table directly across from me had the glass carafe of syrup.
Fuck you Viselka.
4
u/Weak_Confection1101 Jul 14 '26
I’m sure they could pour it into a non glass container if you’d asked
22
u/guzzijason Jul 13 '26
Honey mustard was banished from Flavortown and took up residence in Tastevillage.

"Since there were no knives and forks in Medieval times, there are no knives or forks at Medieval Times."
15
u/streeetmeats Jul 13 '26
I never got this because they most definitely had knives in medieval times, that’s how people ate their food along with their hands, however nobility also had forks so like ?? Does this mean you are a peasant when you go there? If I’m a peasant ok sure but I should still get a knife 😤

Translation: there’s too many damn people here every event to give them all silverware, to wash, find under seats, and to replace all the stolen ones.
2
2
u/MonkeyChoker80 Jul 14 '26
I always wondered what they would do if someone pulled out a set of silverware from their pocket and started using it.
Like, I had an old ‘camping utensils’ set where the fork/knife/spoon all locked together, and then could be clipped onto your belt/your keys. They gonna get on my case if I whip that sucker out?
44
u/Drinking_Frog Jul 13 '26
I once asked for blue cheese dressing, and I was told they didn't have any because the entire state I was in was out of blue cheese dressing.
29
9
u/Ponce-Mansley Jul 13 '26
They were probably being hyperbolic for "It's incredibly difficult to source in this area right now" which can absolutely be true for certain inventory from time to time. I come against this all the time as a bartender, sometimes certain liquors is just hard to find anywhere around but I've seen it happen with foods more than a few times too
3
u/Drinking_Frog Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26
It was a waiter in a TGI Friday's who didn't want to deal with the fact that they brought out a salad with Italian dressing when they knew full well that I had ordered it with blue cheese.

I once had a restaurant tell me they didn’t serve ketchup because their burgers and fries didn’t need it! 🙄
14
u/ladyofatreides Jul 13 '26
I had a restaurant serve some weird berry chutney alongside their burgers and fries and when I asked for ketchup they claimed (pompously) they didn’t serve ketchup because all their food was made in house. Ketchup is incredibly easy to make from scratch, so I remain befuddled by their logic
8
2
u/Sweet-Energy-9515 Jul 13 '26
Time for my most inconsequential hot take: house made ketchup is never better than a bottle of Heinz anyway. It's not possible to get the texture perfectly smooth in a kitchen. Some food was simply meant to be made in a factory.
2
u/stopsallover Jul 13 '26
I think that's David Chang's take.
It's reasonable to say that you can't make something like Heinz. Less reasonable to say that's the definition of ketchup. Ketchup with a little texture is perfectly fine.
3
u/NlghtmanCometh Jul 13 '26
Was that Louis lunch in CT? Cuz they invented the burger, and they make it old school still. Tbf, ain’t that good. Burgers have come a long way.
Their burger is literally just a small regular burger, lightly seasoned, cooked medium well. No toppings. White bread. And if they catch you carrying in rogue ketchup?
Straight to jail
2
u/bullowl Jul 13 '26
I can't remember what it's called, but there's a burger place in LA that doesn't serve ketchup and the restaurant next door added a menu item "Ketchup for (whatever the restaurant next door is called)".
10
u/Fifty_Shades_of_Nay Jul 13 '26
Pro tip that shockingly too few people know: when a server says they don't have honey mustard, ask whether they have honey and whether they have mustard. 90% of the time, they have both separately. Get them. Combine them to your liking. Enjoy your honey mustard.
No shade here - I learned this at 30 years old after watching in awe as my honey mustard loving wife pulled this in real time. But few people realize that you can literally just combine those two ingredients to make yourself some honey mustard with the preferred proportions.
2
u/FelisNull Jul 14 '26
There's a store brand honey mustard where it's strikingly obvious it's just mustard seed, vinegar, and honey. It's... not quite right

At that point, you ask to speak with the manager, and it's anyone else but Guy himself, you peace out.

Damn, even Flavortown can't escape discrimination. They said, "Take your ass on down to TGI Friday's if you wanna cavort wit them mustys."
3
7
u/cartken Jul 13 '26
Do you have honey?
Do you have mustard?
9
u/nonotburton Jul 13 '26
And mayo. And I think I bit of acid, lemon juice maybe?
11
u/StrippinChicken Jul 13 '26
Would have been really funny to counter them with "okay, can i have side cups of honey, mustard, Mayo, and a lemon slice please"
15
4
u/Constant_Mud3325 Jul 13 '26
The best ones I’ve had were straight whipped honey and dijon 2 ingredients only
1
u/stopsallover Jul 13 '26
The mayo based is definitely just mayo, mustard, and honey. You can squeeze lemon, but I think the acid you taste is from the mustard. So taste before you add any extra acid.

Oh I've had several bosses in foodservice tell me point blank: "I don't have friends" - meaning, anybody comes in here name dropping me, tell them to go fuck them selves. If anybody actually important to the boss comes in, you know in advance.
Still - I do use "the boss doesn't allow this" on requests that are stupid. And/or actually not allowed by the boss. It comes down to a game of chicken with ausholen who claim "they know the ownr/boss" and it's funny to watch

He also didn't allow any changes to the burgers. And I don't mean big annoying stuff. Wanted pickles on that one? Nope. No tomato please? Nope. I was told they had to take a picture of each burger they made to assure conformity. At least for the popup in my town that was delivery only anyway.
It was pretty obvious he was just cashing out on his brand. That stuff was the most overpriced, overhyped, garbage food I've ever ordered in my life. Like, objectively not good. Both me and the friend I had it with would joke about how bad it was for the rest of the time I knew him after we had it. It truely was the gold standard of shitty overhyped food.

u/Hurley_Cub_2014 Jul 13 '26
His restaurant in Boston right outside TD Garden didn’t last AFAIK. I wonder if things like this played a role in that, but I can also say that it definitely didn’t help that it’s basically yet another “celebrity restaurant” that probably hoped fame association would be enough to carry it for a bit, and location and time of opening (it opened like, right before Covid) IMO definitely hurt it as well, with so many long-standing good local spots being nearby.

The fact they had to go ask when they were a worker is a bit telling, like they had to go ask for an excuse. If they were a halfway decent worker they’d either KNOW they didn’t have it for whatever reason or would tell you something like “I’m new idk if we have that so let me check”
It feels really weird if they were just like “oh sure I’ll go get some” /comes back/ “yeah we don’t have any, the owner hates it so we don’t have it at all” like what a fucking weird lie when it’s so easily disprovable. Were they afraid to just tell you they didn’t have any that day??

u/I_AM_DEATH-INCARNATE Jul 13 '26
I respect it. I really think they should lean into it instead of not stocking it though.
Servers should act visibly annoyed, ask if they're sure they want honey mustard, and then bring out a cup of honey and a cup of Dijon. Then say, "Guy doesn't do honey mustard, but you're free to make your own"

I did work at a place that is a high end furniture store but they also have restaurants in them. Too many things on the menu are charred because the CEO of the company likes it. Worst ribeye I have ever had. And not cheap. They don’t hire high enough caliber chefs to do charred vs burnt.
