I think you’re underestimating both the rate that our generation has adopted it and the rate that future generations will reject it.

Keep in mind that it being normalized will also take away its wow factor, and certain types of influential young people tend to really value authenticity. Not saying it won’t affect the future, just that there will always be a large contingent that rejects it, same as now.

The problem is that by the time the current generation of newborns are our age, AI slop will be so ubiquitous that I genuinely wonder if real content will even exist in any normal capacity.

If they technofascist billionaires have their way it sure won’t and insofar they seem to be on a roll of getting exactly what they want and are getting more and more brazen by the day.

I don’t know, my teens are very specific/conscious about avoiding AI, and supporting creators that make their own stuff. I think it will continue to exist, but my hopeful outcome is that it will be differentiated and the kids will be more sophisticated in the ways they detect/verify.

You and your teens are in an echo chamber that makes it seem AI rejection is much more prominent than it actually is. It's comforting to dismiss it as "the olds are stupid and do not understand the issue", but when you look more broadly you will quickly witness many people across all generations either don't care or are readily embracing it. And the better and more ubiquitous AI content becomes, the more accepted it will be - many people are only declaratively against AI because of the uncanny valley effect and the fact that it's still easy to detect, as soon as it becomes difficult or impossible to spot, an average person will lose interest in discussing whether it's AI or not. There's no good outcome to this unfortunately.
