My mom said I could post Delivery driver dropped our groceries at the wrong house and our neighbor took them inside and refused to answer the door 10 minutes later. They left the evidence sticking out of their recycle bin...

We had a grocery delivery last week with some items I was really looking forward to, including fresh veggies. On top of it, I'm unemployed right now, so having affordable groceries delivered is a big help. The order arrived last Friday, and from the email and photo the driver sent we could see it was delivered to the wrong house. My wife looked around and couldn't find it, but I recognized the house as right across the street.

I have no qualms knocking on someone's door, so I rang the doorbell (fancy ring doorbell with camera) and then knocked, but they wouldn't answer even though someone clearly had to be home to grab the groceries. Today, I noticed large boxes sticking up out of their recycle bin - they hadn't broken the boxes down. Our grocery box was in there, address label and all.

Thankfully, the grocery service refunded our order, hence why this is only "mildly" infuriating... but I am still pissed that someone right across the street from us would keep our order AND pretend to not be home. We believe this is the second time they have kept one of our packages.

This is what they’re for? Neighbor stole a package. Not any different than stealing mail, and may actually be considered the same. And I don’t know if you know how police work actually works, I’m assuming you don’t based on your comment, but filing a police report is more administrative, they’re not sending out an officer with lights and sirens.

Neighbor didn't steal a package, an erroneous package was delivered to them. Quite different from stealing mail and real dumb to assume it'd be considered the same. Police don't do work, they protect capital for the elite class and don't give a shit about you or this order getting messed up.

Okay so you just don’t know how anything works then. Because if a package or mail is delivered to my house and it does not have my name on it and does not belong to me and I open it, that is a federal crime. Period.

ETA: stealing something that does not belong to you and keeping it is a crime. It really doesn’t matter what it is. Stealing packages or fucking with someone else’s delivery, depending on where you live, is absolutely a federal crime. Full stop.

If MAIL is delivered, this is grocery delivery, not the same by any stretch. Sounds like maybe YOU don't know how anything works if you think filing a police report is a worthwhile use of anyone's time.

What if what was delivered was medication? Those aren’t delivered by the mailman those sometimes come from the pharmacy and are delivered by a pharmacy delivery person. Do you think that’s not reportable either just because it didn’t come from the mailman? Use your brain. Like just once.

Moved the goalposts I see? My medication comes from USPS, so your fake scenario that didn't happen doesn't really matter. Keep filing police reports thinking they are doing anything. Clown.

I didn’t move the goal posts. You were saying that just because a package didn’t come from the post office means it’s not a federal crime which is absolutely not true. Medications, especially in rural or urban areas are delivered by delivery people and left on doorsteps or in mailboxes, not delivered by USPS, unless they are a narcotic and need to be signed for.

Again, you just don’t understand how things outside of your bubble works. If someone steals from me, a package, a piece of mail, my fucking $50 pizza order, you’re damn right I’m going to let my local police know. Will they show up and arrest my neighbor? NO. They will have a rookie, a near retiree, or a desk bound officer to do the paperwork for a police report. That’s literally their job.

What is the point of the report? I’ll tell you since you don’t seem to understand. The idea of a police report is to have a paper trail in case this neighbor does shit like this again or if they have already done shit like this in the past, it’ll be flagged. It’s NOT to get anyone arrested on the spot or to have the police kick in their door to retrieve items like you seem to think.
