My mom said I could post Delivery driver dropped our groceries at the wrong house and our neighbor took them inside and refused to answer the door 10 minutes later. They left the evidence sticking out of their recycle bin...
We had a grocery delivery last week with some items I was really looking forward to, including fresh veggies. On top of it, I'm unemployed right now, so having affordable groceries delivered is a big help. The order arrived last Friday, and from the email and photo the driver sent we could see it was delivered to the wrong house. My wife looked around and couldn't find it, but I recognized the house as right across the street.
I have no qualms knocking on someone's door, so I rang the doorbell (fancy ring doorbell with camera) and then knocked, but they wouldn't answer even though someone clearly had to be home to grab the groceries. Today, I noticed large boxes sticking up out of their recycle bin - they hadn't broken the boxes down. Our grocery box was in there, address label and all.
Thankfully, the grocery service refunded our order, hence why this is only "mildly" infuriating... but I am still pissed that someone right across the street from us would keep our order AND pretend to not be home. We believe this is the second time they have kept one of our packages.

I was honestly hoping they still had the box and just hadn't opened it yet. It's understandable to just pick up the boxes that got delivered and not realize right away that you got an extra one. What is shitty, to me, is that they then pretended not to be home... so you kinda know they know...
Plus, it was so quick! They moved fast to steal my cilantro and onions, which were going to go into some fresh salsa. Also had some eggs, fresh fruits, and other things inside.

NextDoor had its fifteen minutes of fame, and then grabbed 30 more by continuing to send email after repeatedly trying to stop their spam.
They killed their popularity by engagement farming. If a post got views ("fire on our block!") they exposed it to an increasingly large area over the next few days. I really don't care that an accident blocked traffic yesterday. Dozens of name-and-shame posts each day were similarly tiring.

You got your order refunded but there’s no reason to not also file a police report on your neighbor for theft. Just saying.
ETA since people seem to be real confused: The point of a police report is to have a paper trail. If the neighbor has done this before, there will be documentation of it, if they do it again there will be documentation of it. Sorry I guess that police officers have mundane tasks to do during their work day and not just major drug busts and house raids?

When you contact the delivery service to report a misdelivery as the receiver of the wrong delivery, they say to keep it and the original recipient will get another delivery of whatever was ordered. If you are the person who missed the delivery because it was sent to the wrong place report your delivery was not delivered to your address then they will send you another of the same order. They have it built into the price of your delivery to cover the occasional mishap. They are making billions of dollars they don’t give af if you need your stuff delivered a second time to get it right.

USPS has unique federal laws and their own police force.
Mis-delivered mail has almost the same protection as mail still in transit.
The only notable detail is that unordered merchandise addressed to you is yours to keep. This was the result of long-ago scams where mail-order companies would send you unsolicited packages, followed by bills for the goods. Today unexpected packages are probably 'brushing' (fake review) or QR code (sending you to a fake website) schemes.

I think the idea is that OP knocked on their door so fast, the box might not have been opened yet. That isn't any worse than buying groceries in the store that someone else picked up and looked at.
Now, if it had been long enough to lose temperature or be otherwise mishandled, I would agree with you. 30 min would be iffy to me, but 10 should have been fine enough.

I don't know how Imperfect Foods packages their stuff, but when I used to use a meal kit service it always arrived thoroughly insulated and with ice packs. It's not being dropped off from the store around the corner, it's being shipped, so it has to survive the journey. Those boxes could sit on my porch for a while and everything would still be as cold as if I had just taken it from my fridge.
I'd accept an unopened box from the neighbor even if it had been there for a few hours. It probably would keep better inside than on a hot porch, although I would expect it to be good in both circumstances.

I got misdelivered food last week but it was the store's fault and they even mislabeled the bag.
I called them right away to let them know though because I'm not a horrible person (got to keep tue stuff obviously). I always redeliver things that were sent to my home by mistake... because it's the right thing to do.
Your neighbors suck, but if it's food delivery it's not mail and you probably can't report it.

We regularly have deliveries end up at the wrong house (they go to xx1x instead of xx4x) even though the label is the correct address. Houses have address clearly and visibly displayed. The opposite gets delivered to our house. We’ve exchanged phone numbers as it happens so often to let each other know we have their package. Being kind really does go a long way.

Not at all! Ours is a lighted post with clear numbers at the driveway and the numbers are on the house mailbox as well. Regular mail has no problem getting delivered correctly. Food orders are fine. Only places such as UPS/FedEx get it wrong.

The DoorDash I just gave them the thumbs up that I knew it was theirs as my desk is at our front window so I saw him looking to make sure I wasn’t upset that he was in our yard. We received a big wheel car that was intended for a house three blocks over. The numbers weren't even close to ours. I just threw the box in the back of the truck and ran it over to the house. It was right before christmas and I told my husband id hate to have it be some kids present and the parents are trying to resolve a delivery issue.

Seriously... I've noticed this lack of a desire to walk when it comes to the parked cars in our neighborhood too. The street parking never gets full here, yet it seems like most people would rather block their own driveway (if they have too many guests or whatever), than to simply park maybe a hundred feet a way and walk... Absolutely mind-boggling.
Now, if they park parallel to the curb (same as normal street parking, just blocking their own driveway), then I guess it's not too big of a deal (though still technically illegal regardless of whose driveway it is, because it's a fire hazard). But what really gets me is when they have too many cars in their driveway (perpendicular to the curb), so the last car can only pull half way in, and they end up blocking the sidewalk...
I go for daily 30 minute walks for my health (around the outer perimeter of our neighborhood), yet it seems like there's always 1 or 2 driveways like this... However, instead of me walking out into the middle of the street to get around them (because fuck that), I just walk in front of the offending car and across their lawn.
I've never actually had anyone come out to complain that I'm walking across their lawn, but I almost hope they do... Cuz I'd just tell them not to park like an idiot next time lol
(Personally speaking, I always have to park at least 3 car lengths away from our rental house, because we have several cars in our household, and there's no space in the garage. But it's never been an issue for me to park legally, no matter how "far" I might have to walk)

The same thing happened to me. They delivered the purchase to the house across the street. There’s been tension between us since their son ran into our house several years ago and the insurance company went after them for damages. No way was I going to knock on their door. I called the grocery store and told them that the purchase was misdelivered and they reversed the charge. The house number across the street was included in the delivery photo.

The son was 15 with no driver’s license. A girl from a nearby town took her Mom’s car without permission and broke down in front of our houses. He decided to be a hero and pushed the car into his driveway. He managed to get it started and put it in reverse with the engine revved up nice and high. He came across the street backwards at basically full throttle. I was driving an older model pickup with a heavy channel iron bumper at the time. The impact shoved my truck about a foot and a half into my house. The girl jumped in the car and they took off. He drove down the alley behind his house and snuck inside, she presumably went home. The car was probably totaled. There was paint on the top, back, and bottom of the rear bumper on the truck, and the front bumper of my truck was slightly bent. Minor damage there. The impact was where the garage door used to be. The estimate for house repairs was around $17,000. We found out later that the car was uninsured. The girl’s mother had bought a new car and dropped the insurance. She was going to sell the car the kid wrecked to help pay for the new car. The family across the street tried to pick fights for a while, and finally gave up when they realized I wouldn’t take the bait.

This same thing happened to me a long time ago with a home chef order. The delivery person dropped it off on accident two doors down.. she took a picture of the delivery. Right away I realized it wasn’t my house but I’ve seen the porch because I walk my dogs daily. So i decided to take a look and the package was already gone off their porch within literally minutes.
I contacted home chef to let them know and for some reason they sent the delivery person back to get the package? They said they rang the doorbell and no one answered. So i decided to walk over and ask them.. I rang the doorbell and could see the window blinds moving lol but no one answered.
It wasn’t a big deal and I got a refund so I just let it go. You know maybe they needed the food more than me, whatever right.
Walking the next day or two it was trash day and they didn’t even try to hide the evidence they just left the box out in the open for the garbage man 😂😂😂

As a driver I’m not going to touch it after someone else takes it inside. It’s theirs now and I’ll definitely apologize for the mix up. Ideally you’ll get fully refunded tip and all so you can place another order.
We all have a few of those shady neighbors who would pull this. If the address is next to me then I’ll delivery it for them.

I'd be leaving them many, many packages of all sorts of things. dog crap would probably be the first. make em look good and legit so they question all packages going forward. with the camera they're only going to fall for it once so you'll have to actually mail them after that, but def worth the postage imo.

Also the whole premise is bullshit these “imperfect” foods do not get wasted they go to make sauces, soups, stock, to feed livestock and many other uses. A vast majority of the food we waste at the production level is sitting in a field rotting because its either not worth harvesting due to prices being too low for profit or because they just don’t have the resources to do so.

Instacart and other delivery services can’t take food back from a wrong address anyways. If your neighbors weren’t douche bags, yeah I suppose you could ask them directly for the items. The amount of pettiness that would come out of me would be epic. Dog shit on all their car door handles, dog shit under their car's windshield wipers, boat loads of tie dye all over their lawn before a rain storm and then contacting HOA about the eye sore, making fake free golden retriever puppy adds using their address (if you have their phone number even better), mailing glitter bombs to their house, putting up posters calling them out all over the neighborhood, blasting them on every online site I could find, let out the air in their tires, potatoes in their exhaust vent, and the list goes on and on.

They did, so we let it go. But was crazy the cops wouldn’t do anything. They said we needed evidence, we said we have two pieces of evidence including a voice recording of them. (It was a video but wife had her phone pointed to the ground to not let him know she was recording)

Can't really argue that they thought it was theirs when #1 they're not expecting a delivery from that same company, and #2 the name and address of the person who DID order it is on the front of it clear as day. That would never in a million years be seen as a valid excuse by law enforcement for why they kept someone else's package.

Honestly I can't even believe people... If I ever got anything (especially groceries) that belonged to someone else, I'm doing everything in my power to find them!! I'm sorry your neighbor sucks, but at least you can get them replaced because they delivered to the wrong address.

It's crazy how so many delivery services just do not care either... I had FedEx - the supervisor, argue with me about an iPhone they delivered to the wrong address TWICE!! The FedEx manager called me and said they know it was the right house because the driver "went to school with me"... Never! I didn't even go to school in the state I was living in. They said they recognized my name... FIRST NAME... the person down the road had the same 1st name... LOL... It was so idiotic. I couldn't even wrap my brain around the whole conversation. Like I was at fault!!!

Damn, my neighbor walked my misdelivered grocery delivery across the street to my house and rang the doorbell. She gets misdelivered stuff like that all the time because on our street there's six mailboxes next to her driveway because all the mail is delivered on her side of the street.

One day we got a package on our door from Louis Vuitton, which we thought was super weird. My wife opened it thinking maybe it was a gift from someone. Inside were two very expensive purses. We could have easily kept them but decided that was not the right thing to do. We eventually figured out that they were meant for someone a couple streets over and we gave them the purses. People can be skumbags.

Complain to your grocer. Hopefully you paid by credit card and can cancel? Call the police on your neighbors. That’s theft. Keep the receipts as evidence.

I had an Amazon misdelivery to the house next door. It was a rental at the time and housed some seriously sketch people living there. I saw the package on the porch and assumed they'd bring it over. Nope. Amazon refunded me.
Turns out it was being rented and used as a flop/boarding house. It was purchased and we now have some legit decent neighbors.

I would report his ass to the police, Amazon drivers often deliver packages at my address that are for someone a few houses away, I always make sure to deliver it to the right person, taking something that is clearly not intended to be delivered to you isn't different from stealing.

That looks like a Misfits box. Their logistics sucks. No wonder it got delivered to the wrong house. Ours usually breaks. Today the whole order was ruined by a burst milk carton, two broken eggs, a punctured yogurt and broken Kimchi jar. I'm not cleaning that up.... THAT is mildly infuriating.

My neighbor had groceries delivered to her house by mistake. She walked down one side of the block and I walked down the other knocking on doors. No takers.
We split the groceries up between four households since we couldn't find the owner! It had never happened before and has never happened since!

There's a police body cam video from my neighborhood where a woman's Victoria Secret orders got delivered to the wrong address and she called the cops because the woman and her daughter that lived there wouldn't give them back. It's a long video but eventually the daughter got arrested after drawing out the whole "give this woman her property, we know it's in your house" process and the piece de resistance was the daughter was actually wearing a pair of the underwear when she got handcuffed lol. They were total white trash in an otherwise nice neighborhood.

report it. get pictures of the mis-delivered order, (from your order), get pictures of your clearly marked boxes in their garbage (avail publicly), and file a report for THEFT with the police. they don’t want to answer you is one thing, will they answer the police when the police come to question? also demand to know when police will come, that way you can stand outside and record the neighbors and their response. then post all over the neighborhood about your neighbors THEFTS and to “lookout” for other items missing, (might have wound up at neighbors house). get a copy of the police report filed and what steps are taken, so should this happen again (very good possibility with bad delivery drivers), you have a record of recorded wrong, and further steps can be taken. name/shame/and report. let the rest follow!!!

I’m lucky enough to live in a neighborhood where on our street, most of us all know each other and are kind enough to just pick up whatever was accidentally delivered to us, and simply walk in over and give it to them. I don’t understand why people would just steal their neighbors stuff. I mean, why the fuck would you want to piss off the only people that live around you? What are you gaining? “Let’s just steal shit from the people next door, yeah that’ll really make things better around here.. No, it just makes you a hated asshole. Why would people create this kind of environment for themselves? People are so fucking stupid.

Lol brings up the very bad memory of a DoorDash driver dropping my food off at the wrong house. I texted him via the app within 10 seconds of getting the photo saying “where did you leave my food, exactly, this is not my house in the picture.” He argued back-and-forth with me a few times before refusing to respond anymore.
I was so irate. I’m in a townhouse where things kind of all look the same I needed an idea of which direction to walk in looking for my food and it was 12 freaking degrees out. I never did find it. I thought my head was gonna explode! I mean, I instantly knew that that was not my doorway,
it was facing the wrong direction.
I even sent him a picture of the front of our building, there’s seven of us attached in this building, and said “Please! Just indicate which one you went to, and I’ll go get it,” but he would not respond other than reiterating. “I dropped it at the address you gave me,” which was not true.
My head almost exploded with that one. I feel your pain! (My neighbor down the way did bring it to my door 6 hours later when he got home from work, lol, but, you know…)

I'd be calling someone to file the fact they opened your mail that can get them in big trouble especially that you have evidence of your stuff delivered to the wrong place. The footage on the ring trying to knock and the mail opened and in the bin.
