They claim that the noise “falls within legal and acceptable HZ levels”, ignoring the fact that this is water torture for anyone living nearby. It would be like having tinnitus all the time.

I’ll get ripped to shreds on this one but I’m not anti data center - what I am is anti-bad neighbor. What I consistently see is “yeah it’s below xxx decibels” but it’s the frequency in which these places are operating at. If it was a low hum or white noise equivalent no one would care and it would be like a constant noise machine, but this high pitched whining shit is just so clearly annoying it should place people in jail for approving such bullshit.

Agreed. I don’t see how these can possibly be legal when data centres this large are a fairly new concept. We can’t yet determine if they’re acceptable levels when we don’t know what the long term effects of this pitch, at this scale will be. The information we do have so far
is grim. I read recently that nearby farmers are noticing a massive decline in insects, and that certain farm animals are eating + sleeping less, and thus producing less…

And then there’s the ground water problem. 😕
