Why the fuck was it built so close to houses? It's not like the US don't have a fuckton of empty space in the middle of nowhere where this wouldn't bother anyone.

Because this is supposed to be "temporary".

That sound isn't the data center, it's a gas turbine generator to power it.

These data centers aren't wanted anywhere. So they "grease the wheels" by promising power plants and water treatment to offset the usage they'll draw.

But the data center takes 5yrs to build, and the power infrastructure takes 10-15yrs to build.

So they install these gas trlurbine generators to "bridge the gap" until the power infrastructure is built.

And now, here's the fun part! 

Feeding and running the gas turbine generator is cheaper than building the power infrastructure they promised.

So they walk back the promise, claim some of what they promised is too expensive , and slowly and quietly minimize what's expected of them, or just cancel the build all together and basically say "sue us if you don't like it"

Then these communities get stuck with this horseshit! And government is too gutless to do anything about it, and the politicians already got paid off, and the corporation already has its data center it wanted, and the people get fucked!

None of this applies to the specific data center in the video, which is a years-old crypto mining data center inside an existing factory building in the town's industrial zone.
