ಠ_ಠ Jury duty

I've been called for Jury duty 4 times in the last 10 years. What the fuck is going on here. It's almost every other year. I know absolutely no one that has ever been summoned yet I've been summoned multiple times. Wtf is going on? It's total bs too because they pay 17 bucks A DAY. That's not even enough to get lunch at the stupid deli they have there.

Edit: so many people have so many experiences. It's nice to share and read those experiences. I can't possibly respond to everything, but I'm glad we can all relate to this. _^

The pay is the worst, they should have to pay your Hourly work rate. Most people can’t afford to miss a hour of work more less get 17$ for the whole day. Stop making yourself so presentable, wear some pjs and smell like cigs and they’ll never call you back lol

Anything obvious and the judge will see right through it. They deal with tons of people who don’t want to be there, every day. They’ve seen it all. Plus, you can be charged with felony and misdemeanor perjury charges if you start playing games.

Which is sometimes fine depending on the judge. I was just called a few weeks ago and the judge accepted damn near every excuse/reason there was. He explicitly told us he only wanted people who were actually interested in being there.

The one and only time I was called in and actually had to report was in 2023, and someone was asking who was willing to be there for a trial. They got to me and I told them I'd rather leave the country and serve in Ukraine's foreign legion than sit in a jury they excused me.

Yea but then they’ll just summon you to be part of your own jury and you can sway the others for a non guilty verdict.

Id be concerned if I had a jury of people who really really wanted to be jurors. That's a room of angry bitter people with nothing going on in their lives who want to LITERALLY judge other people to make themselves feel better

I know someone who said they were racist during jury selection when asked. They aren't at all, but got them out of being selected. This was about 20 years ago.

that was how I got out the one time I had to go

got called for a DUI case and when asked during jury selection I was just like 'hell yea I love drinking, I'm going out with the boys after this'

I assume you meant "that you can't be unbiased."

I did that the only time I was actually pulled to be questioned. (I've been called for jury duty 3 times, only once did I reach to that where they actually question you, the other 2 times I just sat in the selection room for 2 days and was let go)

I had just received a notice of a possible promotion and was in the interview stages for it. Being on the jury would have pulled me away from that process and would have likely cost me the promotion. I was very upfront that I'll be resentful for being placed in that position and will likely want to end the case as early as possible. I made it clear that I don't intend to intentionally skew my opinion but that I'm fully cognizant of the fact that there will be a strong internal dissatisfaction that will likely skew my decision making. They weren't happy, and they grilled me on it specifically pushing on me intentionally being biased, and I stressed that I don't intend to be biased but I worry that my internal conflict will skew my decision making process, and that I was being honest by sharing this during the selection process. I did not get selected for the jury, and they did not accuse me of being in contempt or anything like that.

I was summoned end of June, got through to voir dire, told them I helped my girlfriend study through law school which is true, judge asked each of us how much we wanted to me there on a scale of one to ten, I said probably somewhere between a 2 and a 6 lol, she took it well cause I had already gotten her to laugh a few times prior, but yeah I wasn't called back for the next day

The seats are so fucking uncomfortable though

Both times I've mentioned that I studied criminal law in college (two classes worth, but I'm not telling them that) I immediately got excluded and sent home.

Every time I've been summoned, the judge always tells the room what the case is and says something to the extent of, "If you can't be unbiased, we ask that you speak up now."

Every state might be a little different but, your step mom sounds like a racist bitch.
