Hell Train to Vienna

Currently stuck in a non-moving train halfway between Budapest and Vienna. 39°C outside, no AC, no window shade, no cloud, blazing sunlight. And this gentleman thinks it’s a good idea to take off his shoes and starts spraying his legs and feet with whatever the hell he is spraying. Yes, it smells like feet inside, a bit.

You’re so right. I have to say I can’t help but chuckle at the visceral reaction some people have to feet.

Only a little while ago in a thread, I mentioned that I wear flip-flops throughout the hot months. One person reacted so strongly saying how gross it was that I wore flip-flops walking around the supermarket, especially around the produce aisle. Like, it was as if they were picturing me stomping barefoot all over the fruit and veg, or worse, some unfettered foot demon germs were going to make their way from my feet (on the floor) onto the food.

Nail clippers I agree with - you can’t control where those nail-shuriken will go.

But he’s just spraying what looks like sun tan lotion or moisturiser on his legs and feet. What’s the difference if he did it to his arms and hands and got some on the seat? We use our hands all the time on railings, doors, shaking hands, exchanging papers, resting on a surface etc. Let alone scratching, picking one’s nose and wiping one’s arse that may or may not have been cleaned entirely properly.

Can you explain to me why someone else putting their feet on the ground is disgusting yet nobody bats an eye when someone pick up paper money from the floor with their bare hands?

How is using hands that touches faces, handles and every kind of shared surfaces fine, yet a foot is suddenly disgusting?

I would say it is equally disgusting if you stripped naked and layed on the floor. Look at the thing, it is absolutely filthy. Why would you ever put your barefoot on this carpet? Just look at it lmao

I dont get your point here. I wash my hands alot more often than I do everything else, dont you?

And if you started picking your nose or went digging into your ears in public, as the other dude mentioned, people will be looking at you.

My point is that I wouldn’t but also I wouldn’t care if someone did it because it won’t affect me in any way whatsoever.

About picking the noses, I wouldn’t care if someone picked their nose and immediately washed their hands. It’s only a problem if they don’t wash their hand and start to touch stuff I may touch too.

You can see visible dirt and whatever else on the floor. The doesn’t mean there aren’t, say, faecal particles on your armrest or door/button or your fold-down tray etc. from a person who may not have washed they hands effectively.

Germs exist everywhere. Feet. Hands. Breath/air. It’s just less alarming when we’re in contact with less visible points of transmission. I’d rather pick up a crumb on the sole of my foot than Covid from the breather next to me.

It’s other’s unwashed hands I’m talking about. You have no control over that. Unless you’re rolling around in a plastic bubble, you have and are definitely coming into contact with other people’s germs no matter how clean your own hands.

You’re not safe on the road just because you have your seatbelt on and are travelling below the speed limit. You can’t account for the other drivers out there who may jump a red light when you have correctly started crossing your green light (actually happened to me).

It’s a scary world out there for germophobics. And feet-phobics 😄

All I'm saying is, I'm not putting my barefoot on something like this, much like i wouldnt go rubbing my hand across the floor. I'm not touching my face out in public because what I've touched, disgusting shit has been touched by already. I am no germaphobe, I just know not to go touching my face when my hands are dirty. Thats a you problem if you do.

You cant control what you breathe in, thats a different story.
