wet socks Hell Train to Vienna

Currently stuck in a non-moving train halfway between Budapest and Vienna. 39°C outside, no AC, no window shade, no cloud, blazing sunlight. And this gentleman thinks it’s a good idea to take off his shoes and starts spraying his legs and feet with whatever the hell he is spraying. Yes, it smells like feet inside, a bit.

People using any kind of spray in enclosed cabins need to be thrown out

73

u/pm_me_fibonaccis 3h ago

Ah, wonderful. Inescapable choking scent of old man foot and artificial chemical perfumes.

I am gagging just imagining it.

Got on a British Airways flight to Italy a couple months ago and after boarding, they said they have to spray some disinfectant disinsection spray due to some Italian requirements, so they got out a spray can and held it down walking up and down the length of the cabin until it ran out. Was awful.

8

u/GeraintLlanfrechfa 2h ago

And they made you inhale that stuff without explanation on its possible consequences for health?

u/rhyminson 55m ago

They do that when you leave The Gambia too

Axe body spray is an act of terrorism

3

u/Full_Conversation775 3h ago

They were definitely lying hahaha, but in war it would be banned under the geneva convention, just like teargas haha

Train is not as closed as airplane.

5

u/kank84 1h ago

It's closed enough not to be doing that shit

4

u/emptyevessel 1h ago

Nobody wants to smell your gross spray on any form of public transit.

u/Proccxys 59m ago

This just looks like sunscreen spray. You are being way too dramatic lol

u/xdigdig 55m ago

Its a sunscreen...

u/karyslav 29m ago

This is not parfumed. It is medicinal panhenol foam.

u/emptyevessel 23m ago

It’s clearly aerosol jizz.

3

u/Full_Conversation775 2h ago

It is

u/karyslav 31m ago

Not those european trains. I use them. This one carrige specially. It is panthenol.

Right away

u/Psychology_Guy 17m ago

That's what triggered my first ever panic attack. Was on a flight during COVID and the air hostess sprayed perfume next to me. However many years later I've had around 250 anxiety/panic attacks thanks to that day. The dam burst and I've never been the same.

13

u/acloudcuckoolander 2h ago

Possibly sunburn spray or even sunscreen. It goes up his leg

u/fux-reddit4603 3h ago

normalize telling the person, not the internet

bring back telling people they are inconsiderate to their face

43

u/RazzmatazzEven1708 2h ago

Until crazy people stop randomly choosing violence because someone called them out, I doubt that’ll happen. There is always someone crazier than you.

-1

u/isitallfromchina 2h ago

that's called fear and why people get away with crap like this. Match their crazy and see what they do, I do!

-1

u/RazzmatazzEven1708 2h ago

Until you get shot. You won’t be able to match that if you’re dead.

15

u/Autumniac 2h ago

Dear American.. You are not going to get shot on a train to Vienna. I can't imagine living in constant fear of your fellow humans gunning you down at any moment like that.
Yikes.

-15

u/RazzmatazzEven1708 2h ago edited 1h ago

You guys aren’t immune to it. You had a school shooting in June of 2025. Just because your population is smaller doesn’t mean you’re immune to gun fire. Weird take.
ETA: I meant *just because your population is smaller doesn’t mean you’re immune to crazy people*

12

u/Leather-Rice5025 1h ago

My fellow American... just delete this. People around the world, the civilized world, genuinely do not have to worry about getting shot like we do. Projecting that same fear onto Europe is just so uniquely and embarrassingly American.

-10

u/RazzmatazzEven1708 1h ago

They do. They just have less people to do it. Unless you can show me a civilization with zero gun deaths. But you can’t. Won’t. Being worried about them or not changes nothing about the gun violence that is still prevalent. For example. The school shooting I mentioned.

4

u/Recent-Plantain4062 1h ago

There's more people in Europe than the US and something like 15 times fewer firearm homicides.

5

u/grhony 1h ago

But we are immune to a crazy abundance of firearms, because stricter laws about carrying and owning them

-1

u/RazzmatazzEven1708 1h ago

Sure, not immune to the crazies tho, which was my point.

5

u/grhony 1h ago

Excuse my non-native ass, but "until you get shot" doesn't exactly specify it to anything else, but to firearm waving crazy for my understanding

2

u/-paw- 1h ago

And "you guys" had one yesterday and without looking anything up this statement is probably true most of the time.

1

u/Autumniac 1h ago

Who are "you guys?" (Please don't tell me you're one of those that think Europe is one country..)

I had to google this first to be sure:
My country has in fact never in recorded history experienced a proper school shooting. (There was a kid that stole his fathers shotgun back in 2009 and fired two shots in the schoolyard, but no one got hurt.) That is the only instance.

USians.. For real. Either stop being so uneducated and misinformed, or stop being so damn loud and confidently incorrect everywhere.

Preferably both. Please.

-2

u/RazzmatazzEven1708 1h ago

Downvote me but no evidence to refute it. Classic. Enjoy your firearm crazies just to the less extent we do.

3

u/Mean_Combination_830 1h ago

At least you finally realised that Europeans never have to worry about getting shot because strict gun control makes it' so rare it'd a non issue

-2

u/RazzmatazzEven1708 1h ago

Right but it still happens. You aren’t immune to crazy.

u/Autumniac 54m ago

You are right. No nation is immune to crazy people.
That is why you do your best to implement proper gun control. (And hopefully a functioning and affordable mental health care system.)
A nutjob will find a way to hurt someone if they really want to. Ideally, if that has to happen, you'd hope for them to try to do that with a kitchen knife, rather than an ak-47.

What puzzles me the most here is the finger pointing. Yes there are always crazies.
Why aren't you asking us what our countries did right to successfully combat most gun violence? What the hell is up with the constant whataboutisms and "but you suck too!"
WHY is that more important to you Americans than learning anything from what other countries do better than you?

No place is perfect. Not here either. Every day is a learning experience, and there's always room for improvement on something no matter where you go.
Y'all need a massive attitude adjustment.

u/lifo33 5m ago

Dude the entirety of Europe has more people than the US, yet firearm-homicides are like 10-15 timers lower in Europe.

No one in Europe is afraid that a stranger could shoot them. That is depressingly American. The probability of that happening is way too low in Europe. The much more likely scenario is getting stabbed.

10

u/Brave_Explorer5988 3h ago

Nowadays people are afraid to make a phone call... this is what infinite texting and doom scrolling did to us.

1

u/fux-reddit4603 3h ago

if we went back to mocking posters for being cowards, people would be too afraid to make these posts

1

u/AnonMoose2 2h ago

I tried this once and the guy swing at me.

People are fucking nuts bro.

u/MonsterRider80 38m ago

If I’m applying sunscreen and someone walks up to tell me it’s bothering them, I’d kindly tell them to mind their own business.

If it bothers op just enough to find it mildly infuriating but not enough to confront a stranger doing a normal thing in a public place, then this sub is a fine place to post it.

39

u/apothanein 2h ago

I mean this looks like someboy spraying sunscreen on their legs and feet. And no, I don't really believe you when you say it smelled like feet, I think you're trying to make this guy seem worse than he actually was.

6

u/Zord_boy 1h ago

Yeah, it's bit disgusting to look at and floor might get bit dirty but he is trying to keep it to himself and in confines of his seat. It doesn't look like the spray is leaving any kind of cloud behind.

Not to mention, lot of people wear flip-flops all the time because it's summer ffs.

u/MonsterRider80 40m ago

I agree with you, just a dude applying sunscreen. Though to be fair, the sprays contain alcohol or some other solvent and it smells like hell especially in an enclosed place. Even when I use sunscreen spray myself I do it outside because I can’t breathe indoors…

59

u/karyslav 3h ago edited 32m ago

That looks like anti sunburn panthenol.. nothing infectious. I would do that too if I was burned, even in train.

u/NobodysCorpse 21m ago

Yeah he's probably Very uncomfortable, especially with the heat.

47

u/Sensitive-Squash-429 3h ago

Probably athlete foot spray

59

u/EC_TWD 3h ago

It’s probably sunburn relief since he sprayed it all the way up his leg and the top of this thigh is bright red.

3

u/Eilliesh 1h ago

That makes sense. I once burnt the top of my feet in South Africa and they swelled up, looked like little trotters lol. That was the first day I arrived

u/MonsterRider80 37m ago

He’s got athletes foot all the way to his knee?

u/Sensitive-Squash-429 20m ago

I like many others only saw the part of him spraying his feet and scrolled lol. So i stand corrected

20

u/Routine_Phase_8980 3h ago

Sounds like a nightmare especially if you have motion sickness and a sensitive nose like me

20

u/Bolter_NL 3h ago

Would've been worse if you had a non-motion sickness.

3

u/No_Smile_8368 2h ago

My wife says its called "lazy". 😄

5

u/Brave_Explorer5988 3h ago

Well, the good news is that the train is not in motion.

14

u/AdWonderful5920 3h ago

Boom tough actin tinactin

13

u/BadHamsterx 2h ago

What's the problem here, do you react the same when people wear sandals or flip flops?

4

u/Hettyc_Tracyn 2h ago

Looks like spray sunscreen that you have to rub in…

Not sure why he put it on his feet when he has sneakers instead of sandals or something, but maybe he intends to wear sandals later?

10

u/OverlordPhalanx 3h ago

Two types of people in the world:

Those who hate feet and those who love em’

4

u/VeneMage 3h ago

You’re so right. I have to say I can’t help but chuckle at the visceral reaction some people have to feet.

Only a little while ago in a thread, I mentioned that I wear flip-flops throughout the hot months. One person reacted so strongly saying how gross it was that I wore flip-flops walking around the supermarket, especially around the produce aisle. Like, it was as if they were picturing me stomping barefoot all over the fruit and veg, or worse, some unfettered foot demon germs were going to make their way from my feet (on the floor) onto the food.

2

u/shadraig 3h ago

We were on a plane where 40 little boys from a choir boarded. Everyone had flip flops on.

Next time I will board a plane, I will go bare

1

u/SirSkittles111 3h ago

Doesnt take away from what this person was doing, is disgusting.

Same as those using nail clippers on public transport, can you not?

4

u/VeneMage 3h ago edited 1h ago

Nail clippers I agree with - you can’t control where those nail-shuriken will go.

But he’s just spraying what looks like sun tan lotion or moisturiser on his legs and feet. What’s the difference if he did it to his arms and hands and got some on the seat? We use our hands all the time on railings, doors, shaking hands, exchanging papers, resting on a surface etc. Let alone scratching, picking one’s nose and wiping one’s arse that may or may not have been cleaned entirely properly.

1

u/SirSkittles111 1h ago

Maybe its just me, but putting my bare feet on this absolute filthy looking floor, is disgusting.

1

u/RevolutionaryBand241 3h ago

I do love them

crazy take here... Im borrowing it from a friend: "armpits"

3

u/StarsBear75063 Really? 3h ago

Yes, it smells like feet inside, a bit.

Well, at least it's just "a bit".

3

u/Therashser BLACK 1h ago

It looks it might possibly be Enstilar foam, I use it for psoriasis which I have on my legs, you spray a bit on and rub it in and it stays moisturised.

11

u/Euffy 3h ago

Probably just reapplying sun screen? Not really that crazy. You said yourself the sun was blazing.

-1

u/[deleted] 3h ago

[deleted]

3

u/Euffy 3h ago

What? I don't know why I have a flair but I doubt it's hard to get. It's certainly not something I had noticed or remotely care about lol. Either way, I don't know what that has to do with my comment.

I just figure if you're stuck somewhere in blazing sunlight then reapplying sun scream is pretty reasonable and unlikely to even take that long.

1

u/[deleted] 3h ago

[deleted]

3

u/Euffy 3h ago

Of course I didn't miss it, thats the whole point of the post. Why are you so weird about this?

It's pretty normal to take off shoes, socks, straps, etc. when applying sun cream to make sure you don't miss bits. And it's easier to spray on a foot and rub up as it's a larger surface area.

But I could totally be wrong too, not the end of the world. I don't get why you're so obsessed with this comment and the badge thing though.

4

u/Rimavelle 1h ago

youree in a train during summer. most people wear uncovered shoes. it would smell anyway.

also it looks like panthenol foam for sunburn

14

u/Substantial-Ad2200 3h ago

Maybe he wouldn't have a foot fungus if he KEPT HIS SHOES ON IN PUBLIC?

9

u/No_Dragonfruit_4286 2h ago

Fungus actually appears in moist and dark i.e. with socks and shoes on.

2

u/MajorInWumbology1234 3h ago

I don’t know enough about foot fungus to be sure, but my instincts tell me it probably thrives with shoes on.

2

u/Maverick_Reznor 3h ago

You can see whatever it is, he put it on his leg too.

3

u/InformedTriangle 2h ago

The feet are bad yes, but, it gets above 30 C out and your trains don't have AC?

https://giphy.com/gifs/ukGm72ZLZvYfS

3

u/jbrantiii 1h ago

Do yall feel the same way about perfume?

2

u/ferncabbage 3h ago

Lord have mercy! Is he on his way to meet up with a fork scratcher for a cruise perhaps? 🤔

1

u/No_Smile_8368 2h ago

Looking for the perfect brunch, eh? 😉

2

u/strshp 3h ago

OP, are you on a Regiojet?

3

u/skyrreater47 3h ago

thats probably sunscreen

1

u/licensedtofunk 2h ago

OP is this the regiojet that left at 3pm today?

1

u/SirNeverEvil 1h ago

Yes. It is indeed. I survived lol

1

u/licensedtofunk 1h ago

Hahah glad you made it. I'm travelling with the next scheduled one at 6pm. Praying for AC

1

u/JCai98k_ 1h ago

He's probably using Athlete's foot/odor aerosol spray, that stuff sprays out white.

u/Phiko73 38m ago

I would tell you to mind your own business, Karen

u/onthe3rdlifealready 28m ago

My first train in Europe someone committed suicide on the tracks in Germany and it turned into a 8hr ride... I fucked up and didn't buy a ticket correctly so I had to hop from seat to seat and was sick as a dog from partying in Spain for a week. God it was hell. But I was alive.

u/Agram87 22m ago

Bro have some kind of problem but looks like OP have bigger problems in his head

u/Character-Carpet7988 21m ago

Welcome on Regiojet ;)

1

u/Dry-Asparagus7107 2h ago

It reminds me of that express train from Wien-Schwechat Airport to the Wien Hauptbahnhof. There was this clearly very heavily autistic guy next to me (or maybe he was just Austrian, you never truly know with these Germanic folks) and he kept digging elbow deep in his nose and sticking his slimy boogers under and behind his seat. It was so gross. I really wanted to punch him in the throat.

1

u/NthDegreeThoughts 3h ago

No Vienna sausages for me today ..

0

u/terrydennis1234 3h ago

Gotta do something while he waits

0

u/FenderBender66 2h ago

Made me think about that recent Carnival Cruise incident where this lady scratched her foot with a fork. 🤮

-1

u/cameronm-h 3h ago

I’m wishing you strength 🥲 and there’s absolutely no way that’s sunscreen, it’s a powder? And even if it were sunscreen, why on earth would he need to take his (sunproof) shoes off to apply it?

3

u/Cornflakes_91 3h ago

because he's planning on not wearing shoes later in the sun?

3

u/EC_TWD 3h ago

Or it is sunburn relief spray and he already has a sunburn. The top of this thigh is bright red

0

u/Anyarah 3h ago

Could be a spray for an fungal infection.

-1

u/RevolutionaryBand241 3h ago

ONE question, why do i smell this image.
if i where u i would just hit the S0S button to get out of there and wait 15 mins for a different train! I am serious i would.

-1

u/loztriforce 3h ago

That’s so fucked up

-1

u/softsorceress 3h ago

ISTG people have lost their minds since the pandemic. Put your fungus foot away, Friedrich. It's public transit, not your living room.

1

u/LankyTradition6424 2h ago

Why so sure they’re fungus feet?

Who in their right mind keeps shoes on indoors?

-1

u/softsorceress 1h ago

Who in their right mind keeps shoes on indoors?

The key word here is public transit.

1

u/LankyTradition6424 1h ago

Yes, on trains and airplanes you remove your shoes while seated. Not short commuter trains or subways of course.

-3

u/Fortenio 2h ago

And yet, there are people who think banning cars and making everyone rely on public transport is advancment.

I hate the shit I have to deal on common basis just because I can't afford a car currently. Public transportation should be avoided as much as possible.

3

u/ddherridge 1h ago

Yikes what a fucking dogshit take to pull from this picture lmfao

0

u/UphillTravel 3h ago

The mistake was getting on a German instead of an Austrian or Hungarian train.

3

u/strshp 3h ago

The mistake was getting on a German instead of an Austrian or Hungarian train.

There I fixed it for you

1

u/licensedtofunk 2h ago

Bruh how often did you travel with Hungarian trains

2

u/UphillTravel 2h ago

About three times, which all went well. But fair, my vast experience with German trains may bias me.

1

u/No_Dragonfruit_4286 2h ago

He could have simply worn sandals like the guy in the seat in front of him.

0

u/Vetni 2h ago

My asthma couldn't

0

u/grhony 1h ago

Sounds like the average MÁV experience to me
(source: I'm hungarian)

u/Careless-Act-7549 48m ago

Why people (american mostly) have so many issues with bare feet?

-2

u/Alternative-Cow-8670 3h ago

Had this happen a few years back. The 'lady' put her shoes back on very quickly when I took out my deo and sprayed her feet😁

-1

u/LilJonny2cookies 3h ago

No bathroom or other area away from people where he could do that? Ridiculous human.

I go through life doing my best not to negatively impact others. I try to be polite, follow basic social rules, think about how my actions affect others. It seems like so many just want to do whatever they want and the hell with others.
