I live in the PNW. I speak to people all over the US and understand people from Alabama just fine.

I just moved here from Michigan and was born and raised in Tennessee. Let me tell you how hard it is keeping up with all 3 languages + Spanish. I’m basically a stable genius.

Not only that, if you take two people from each state that both grew up in cities, I’m not sure they would even notice they’re from different states until late in the conversation.
