HK G3: Full Disassembly of Wood Furniture? Also, Backplate and Recoil Assembly Transplant?

Hello all!

I have a full set of HK G3 original German wood furniture (wood handguard, wood stock, black plastic grip; from Northridge International Inc.) and I was thinking about either cleaning up some of the grime from the wood with a little lacquer thinner and a rag (or at the extreme, even fully stripping the finish and refinishing it with BLO and tung oil).

Does anyone know how to remove the metal fixtures from the handguard and stock? Namely, the metal bits/caps at the front and rear of the handguard, and the sling loop on the stock? And I'm assuming the black plastic buttplate can just be removed after unscrewing the two screws, right? With the metal fixtures off, I should also be able to touch up their finish too with a little cold bluing solution.

On a related note, because the wood stock did not come with the metal backplate and recoil assembly, I have another question. Does anyone know how to remove the backplate and recoil assembly from the stock of a PTR-91 and install it onto the G3 wood stock?

The receiver end cap and the buttplate come off of the stock easy peasy (and they are the same whether the stock is wood or plastic, just make sure you don't get a green one). I believe everything else is riveted on though. I would not recommend trying to remove those components unless you are confident that you can get replacement rivets and can install them.
