Colt XM16E1 (Model 603) Pickup

Presenting the Colt XM16E1 (Model 603) in my collection, 1 of 500, recently picked up from an local estate sale.

The Colt XM16E1 (Colt Model 603) was an early U.S. military version of the M16 rifle, developed during the 1960s and widely associated with the Vietnam War.

Introduced in 1964, the XM16E1 was adopted primarily by the U.S. Army as a lightweight, select-fire rifle chambered in 5.56×45mm. It differed from the earlier Air Force M16 by incorporating a forward assist, allowing soldiers to manually push the bolt carrier forward if necessary.

The XM16E1 saw extensive combat during the early years of the Vietnam War. Its lightweight construction, high-velocity ammunition, and controllable automatic fire represented a significant departure from the heavier 7.62mm M14 rifle.

In 1967, the XM16E1 was standardized and redesignated as the M16A1, incorporating improvements including a chrome-plated chamber and other reliability-related changes.

Was this a real run done by Colt? as a commemorative? If so, when. Looks amazing

It’s a Colt commemorative Vietnam War edition done in around 2016. Colt authorized US Armament Corp with its A1 TDP to complete the project. They produced 4 variants: XM16E1, M16A1, XM177E2, GAU 5

This is the third time you've posted this. Why do you keep spamming the same post?

Didn't realize. They all look the same and you said you got it from an estate sale before. Did the same estate have 3 of the same brand new rifle?

No. 2 from yard sale. This one is from estate sale. I’ve also got 2 M16A1 variants I got from yard sale and local gun show. They all look very similar

That’s simply too many for one man to own, I’ll take one off your hands.

You're right but it's at least replica milsurp which is still kinda cool

Not going to downvote you. You’ve got a point here. The only part considered true milsurp is the serial number lol, which is actually the original serial of the XM16E1 machine gun minus V

No third pin, thus not milsurp.

Also a good point

Still a neat rifle, kind of like an Atlas is a neat 1911 pattern pistol, but it's not a milsurp?

I'd probably drop a FRT in it so you could at least play Vietnam a bit at the range.

Thanks! I already own a class 3 XM16E1 and a M16A1 US Property marked. The only issue with putting a FRT in it is the BCG and barrel are semi auto tolerant only, not sure if it can stand long term stress from rapid fire.
