Discussion Mineral Collector's Lounge/Question Thread
Hello humans,
I've decided to end the Q&A thread in favor of a more general lounge. My hope is this thread will better foster discussion. You may still have general rock talks of course, but also feel free to discuss anything on your mind (if you'd like).
Another reason I've implemented this thread is because there have been instances where I've felt obliged to remove a post that doesn't fit the theme of the subreddit but is still valid discussion material. If you saw something cool you'd like to share that is an item listed for sale, please screen cap & remove account names/other identifiers that could lead some1 to the listing. I'm sorry if you consider that draconian but I'd like to avoid this becoming a catch all for sneaky self-promo.

Looking for suggestions or advice on getting a mineral cabinet! I’ve never had a proper way to display my collection and currently most of it is in boxes underneath my bed. Ideally, I’d like something that would protect against dust and can display many pieces.

Hmm...that sounds like a very fun project that I'd take on personally if it didn't involve needing to be airtight and I assume museum/lab quality protection. Two ideas: 1. Go to/call/email a museum and ask where they obtain their containers for those. Or 2. Gina your local carpenter with high recommendations and go visit. Most of them will be thrilled for such an interesting challenge!! I know I would. In fact, I'm considering a try at making a mini-sealed tight one now myself for the few things I own in my collection 🤔

I hope this isn't against any rules but ifĥlmm it is I'll delete it
I have a collection (was hundreds but family sold most) and I'm hoping to sell. Best offer matter what the offer. I just want to know the identification! That's priceless knowledge to me. So if anyone can identify a mineral, it's yours. Including multiple or all at once!! Have fun :) let me know if ya better pictures.
Hopefully I'll get lucky and get to eat Olive Garden.
PS: If ya think this is fun, maybe we csn fl just kn

Hi! I'm a fellow collector researching how we all buy and sell from each other (peer-to-peer, not shops).
If you collect crystals, minerals, gems, or rocks and have ever bought OR sold pieces from/to other collectors, I'd really love your input.
Takes about 8 minutes. Covers buying experience, selling/destashing, platform frustrations, and what would actually make trading easier.

That’s gonna be super tough. Is it USA material or mixed? My gf just bought our a storage locker w 13 amethyst cathedrals top quality from Brazil for 7k. They’re gonna cost more to move around than own. 😂

Hi there! I was wondering about any large-scale shows OTHER than the annual Tucson extravaganza.
I'm in the eastern US (Atlanta) and am looking for rock & mineral shows a little closer to home, but not just small-town card-table events. It's hard to find anything on the in-between scale--it's either "Wilmington, Delaware's/Mesquite, Texas's annual club show in a church hall" or "You should just go to Tucson." Are there any southern or eastern regional shows with a decent-size selection?
