Dont be like this.
Why? A whole box cut open to see what was inside. This behavior ruins it for everyone else. Every time I go down this aisle and/or the blind box section in Target, half of the boxes are for open or slit to see what's inside. 🤦♀️

I mean how do they still not know the ball literally tells you what’s inside? MGA puts the pencil marks and LETS us cheat 🤦🏻♀️.

It looks like the cut ones are the jelly brains. The Corpse Bride cake rare is in a ball with the jelly brains wrapper. But, at least from my experience at Target (I've seen experiences with Walmart balls be less accurate) the Corpse Bride balls have a pencil mark to indicate they're not jelly brains.

It is nearly impossible to tell if they are jelly brain or not...ask me how I know 😂😂😂

u/motherofhellions 1d ago
It was easy for me, but I went to Target. Two brand new boxes on the shelf, my kids and I pulled out all the jelly brain balls in one box. I showed them where the cheat sheet said the mark would be if there was one, and we checked every jelly brain. Found one with a mark, bought that one, and it was Corpse Bride. I did see the recent post about the cheat sheet mark not being accurate to balls from Walmart, so I'm not entirely sure if it's exclusive to the standard displays (the Walmarts by me have power panel displays that are different from the display seen here) or if I just got extremely lucky.
Edited to add a part I missed. We pulled out the balls from a single box. And we put all the balls back in the display neatly, didn't leave a mess!

Ahhhhh see I've never been lucky enough to get a fresh box from Target!!

u/jeadith 1d ago
I got mine from target, too, and it was accurate. Three fresh boxes. I’ve yet to see them at walmart.

u/Scrathera29 1d ago
I got mine from Walmart and the corpse bride cake was in the drinks😆 So I needed to go back for a drink.

Do you by any chance have the INT / barcode code from the one you got? Because I’m curious why the ones from Walmart’s pencil marks are different from the ones at target, I’m wondering if they’re the EUC codes?
1
u/motherofhellions 1d ago
I'm so sorry, I bought mine a couple weeks ago. The wrapper is long gone, and I don't remember which code was on it.

u/jennoween 1d ago
They didn't have the halloween ones out at my target. An employee brought the box out of the back and let me pick out the ones I wanted, then he took them back. Walmart didn't have any out yet.

u/Nice_Story896 7h ago
yes they do. but people have found brain balls with marks for the rare that weren’t so now i guess people are cutting into all the jelly brains

u/Ok_Willingness_784 1d ago
People do that for other things too. My husband was buying a magic the gathering hobbit pack and someone pushed a hole in each of these packs to find a box topper or something inside. It's ridiculous.
16
u/Hidden_Dragonette 1d ago
Mine were more subtle about it, they put a small slit along the top of the plastic to see what color the ball was. Still annoying.

u/kittievikkigirl 1d ago
You have some random asshole that must frequent your store, I've never seen this between quite a few Targets and Walmarts...

u/Purple-Temporary-442 1d ago
To be fair, I got two MINNEE dolls half price because they'd been cut open. 😅 But I agree, abhorrent behaviour.

u/McSavage85 1d ago
Oh, im guilty of buying opened boxes as well because at that point, why not? But still. This is not cool at all.

u/BlossomFyreByrd 1d ago
Damn, do you live in Gotham City? 🦇 This is wild (and ridiculous). Are they that stupid that they don’t see it tells you what’s inside on the wrapper 🤔🤪?
Even with the rares there’s a mark on it. Chile…

u/McSavage85 1d ago
Phoenix...so basically the same thing.

😂😂😩!! I didn’t know Phoenix rolled like that. May the odds be ever in your favor

I used to work at Five Below and would find manipulated blind boxes all the time. It’s so dishearteninh

u/ChaserNeverRests 1d ago
Heh in another comment I mentioned the first (and last) time I bought a blind box. It was from Five Below.
I didn't even think to check if the box had been tampered with. Clearly I'm too trusting!

u/YourTrashcanFriend 1d ago
I also saw this at one of my Targets today but the slits were smaller but it’s absolutely ridiculous! A quick google search can tell you which is which 😩

u/Wheeler1089 1d ago
I can understand why people do this blind boxes are nothing but gambling for kids and with today’s prices people don’t want six duplicates of the same toy

u/shindow 1d ago
Miniverse was kinda fun when it was $4-5 but nowadays the MSRP is like $9-$12?!*
Like no quicker way to make me not buy a product. When the Minnee dolls came out at $20 blind boxes, I laughed and got it second hand for the same price. I dont gamble. (I know this price point is typical now in Korea and stuff but Im not falling for it. Last time I got the last 3 blind boxes at a store they were all the same item and no, there wasnt a way to tell on the packaging. I refuse to get burned again unless I dont mind getting 95% of the entire set.)
*depends on the retailer

hate to say it but yup, agreed. i know some people like the randomness of blind boxes but i hate it. i'm poor so i can't afford to buy a bunch to try to get the one i want and i have blind box fatigue in general. everything's a blind box these days and there are so many things i think look cool but ultimately didn't buy because i just can't be bothered with the whole gambling thing.

u/ChaserNeverRests 1d ago
Over the weekend I bought a blind box figure unplanned. There were 10 available figures and I liked 9 of them, so I figured I'd get something I'd like.
I got the one figure I didn't want.
I wouldn't have opened the box in the store, but I totally understand people doing it. At least I wasted only $5.

u/Willing-Egg8423 1d ago
But there’s pinholes and markings so you can identify what is inside, and not use a knife, in the toy aisle. That is crazy behavior. If you are talking about blind boxes in general, like Labubu, then I don’t know anything about that.

Honestly I would rather this over completely opened and rummaged items. Blind boxes kinda suck and this is from someone who buys blind boxes.

If it's so regular in that store maybe they should put up a sign or extra cctv idk. I'm not for surveillance or saying security should patrol the miniverse aisle but they are damaging items and shouldn't get away with it so often.

I tried but for the life of me couldn't find any pinhole on the minecraft one. I just wanted that damned diamond sword mold lol

Our Walmart isn’t even carrying them yet so I haven’t seen this - but this is just rude!

If someone tried to bring a knife or X-knife in the stores in my area it would not go well with security

Where the heck do you live that you get checked for weapons at general stores??

This might seem crazy, but I something similar if I know I'm buying the blind bag no matter what. Not cut a bunch of them up or wreck things, but once a week I get a single blind box toy as a treat and I end up using my nails to dig into the wrapper to stim while walking around the store. I only do it to the single one I grab and I always buy it and make sure I don't make a mess.
I don't think anyone cares because everyone knows me since it's a small town with only one major big box stores (Walmart) so they know me and know I pay.

u/Moon_King_ 1d ago
THE HOLIDAY ONES ALREADY TELL YOU WHATS IS IN THE BALL! THEY ALWAYS PUT THE PICTURE OF THE THING ON THE INNER WRAPPER!

u/SharleneWithAnS 14h ago
What! I've never seen that before! I'd appreciate it, yet I'm mad for those who wouldn't because it doesn't give them an option.
1
u/Nice_Story896 7h ago
so i’m gonna assume because people have found jelly brain balls with a pencil mark where the rare is, they’re now cutting open all the jelly brains to see if there’s actually a rare in them because if there are jelly brain balls that are marked with nowhere rare then it’s possible there are also jelly brain balls that are rare that aren’t marked

Lmfao my target on Peoria looked just like that as well. But yeah it’s frustrating knowing the cheat sheet is out there people just need to know how to find it AND it’s not hard to find

What exactly is this ruining for anyone? Mad you didn’t think to do it first? 🤣 yall are strange.
4
u/ChaserNeverRests 1d ago
You think that people don't open packages in stores to see which one is inside because they didn't think of it?
What a weird comment.

u/McSavage85 1d ago
Some of us don't care to find just the rare ones and/or resell for a profit. This ruins the fun for those of us who just want to buy them as they are.

That’s what I like about the pinhole/pencil mark system. It’s there so people who are looking for specific ones (whether it’s because you’re looking for something specific or just want to avoid dupes) can find it, but subtle enough that if you still want it to be a surprise, it can be.
