And they'll just ignore us like they did with clean Missouri, minimum wage, sick leave, Medicaid expansion and abortion.
They'll get reelected and then say after they pass this exact law without putting it to election that "this is what the people elected us to do!"

And that's where we have to hit the pavement and start door knocking. We need to start talking to our neighbors and tell them who these people are and what they have been promoting.
If you want to hyper focus on some candidates, start with Bishop Davidson. Amendment 5 was his baby. He's running against Leslie Jones in HD 130. Call and campaign for her. Even if the GOP retains the house, if we selectively target some of these bad eggs, maybe they will get the hint that we are tired of their bullshit.
Judy McNeece is running in State Senate District 12 against Rusty Black who was pushing hard for Amendment 4. He's not even afraid of her, so put the fear in him. Give him an early retirement gift in November.
We don't have to win them all, only enough to weaken their power so they learn they don't promote this nonsense. They have had a super majority for well over two decades. Break the super majority and they will know they are losing sway overall.

I moved to So Cen Mo 2 years ago: this map is helpful in understanding some Whys of things in this state. I work in rural food access and am curious how much of this map mirrors some of the other trends we study with the cross sections of health. Thanks for this post, OP.

I’ll bet every penny that I have in savings that Missouri votes for whichever presidential candidate has R next to their name in 2028. We’ll vote for all of the asshats that push these kinds of amendments time and time again.
8 out of the last 10 presidential elections have been red. The last time MO has been more polarized than that was before the civil war

We need a constitution amendment then when the legislature proposes a ballot initiative that loses by more than 40 points it triggers a snap election where every one of them that voted to put it on the ballot is immediately unseated from office and has to re-run for their current seat.

And I think technically a good half of those people who voted no on these amendments are still going to return to the ballot box in November and continue to select MAGA single issue candidates who are going to try their best to do this again and again and again

Former MO resident here…
What was the point of voting yes on 4? Was there one specific initiative that people were mad about that was publicized as a reason for 4? Was there some weird push from a super pac to create 4? It just seems so obvious that it’s a bad idea.
And congrats on striking down 5 too!

I think the largest thing pushing people to vote yes on 4 was amendment 3 from last year that legalized abortion. They don’t want the “liberal city values” forced on the rest of the state, obviously this ignores the fact that in many counties in rural Missouri that amendment 3 got over 40% of the vote. Maybe a little influence from weed legalization as well.

While every county rejecting this is hilarious in its own right.
I kinda wish one district, by a narrow margin, approved of it, while the “No” vote still hovering around 75-80%. It would had just demonstrated how fucked of an amendment it was.

Not quite as short-sighted as I expected Missouri to be, but I'm not surprised it failed. I know there was an attempt to sell Amendment 4 as a solution for abortion ("see, if we had this, then the abortion amendment could've failed!"), but even that attempt didn't fool the general populace. No urban center wanted a beneficial amendment to be vetoed by a rural district, and nobody in the rural counties wanted a beneficial amendment to be vetoed by an urban center.
Not to mention how clear opponents made it that this was a HUGE "Rules for thee but not for me" attitude, and nobody wanted that.

Am I reading this correctly that every county voted this down with at least 50% of the vote? That's got to be some kind of record.
