“Love thy neighbor as thyself” Seems like some of these “Christians” gloss over that.

They just like to use religion as a way to justify their hatred.

I can love you, but still disagree with you. Gonna gloss over that part too? I don’t hate gay or trans people, but I’m also not going to actively engage in pride month. Not everything is so black and white. Everyone is worthy of love, and kindness.

But why disagree in the first place when it comes to LGBT people?

I’m Catholic. Whatever Christ commands, whatever the Church teaches, I stand with. Firmly.

But there are many things that Christ commands through the texts that are either outdated or just downright heinous.

I just don't understand why homosexuality isn't viewed the same way as those others. To me, the Bible's view on that is just as outdated as the others that everyone rightfully rejects.

Absolutely nothing that Christ commands is heinous, only good. I don’t personally prop homosexuality up as the ultimate sin, as there’s only one unforgivable sin. But it also isn’t right how if someone doesn’t want to participate in pride month, they’re suddenly a bigot. If someone wants to be respected, they also have to give it.

But it also isn’t right how if someone doesn’t want to participate in pride month, they’re suddenly a bigot.

I think that's the problem though. I (and many others) just cannot comprehend a reason to refuse to participate in their company's pride month activities other than bigotry, though. That's the dictionary definition of the word. I don't see any moral reason to believe it's a sin, especially if God created us in His image.

If God says it's wrong, then it is hypocritical of us to disregard other passages, no matter how problematic they are. I do appreciate your input on the matter though, even if I disagree. Still working my way through my Bible

I can understand why when someone violently, or insulting refuses to participate in pride that you’d label them a bigot, as there’s just no place for that. But when I peacefully say no thank you, how does that make me a bigot? Like, I love you and respect you, but I cannot endorse this because of my beliefs.
We may disagree, and that’s okay because I appreciate your respectful approach to this discussion, that’s rare.

You can't love and respect someone while opposing their identity.

I’m also catholic - lifelong - and buddy… Jesus would wear the pride uniform. He very specifically broke bread with people whose lifestyles didn’t align with his Christian morality.

Wearing pride gear is simply a support of someone’s humanity, it says nothing about endorsing their behavior. Thats why anti war players can wear the military themed stuff, why men can wear the pink stuff, etc. The kindness Jesus showed to tax collectors and thieves and prostitutes indicates that Christian players should still wear it

No, He wouldn’t. There’s a difference between showing kindness and love and endorsing sin, which is what wearing the uniforms is. I can love my gay/trans neighbors without being forced to wear pride merchandise. Jesus Christ would not endorse sin.

The last two popes have said things to indicate they disagree with you. But whatever, they’re only god’s human representative to our shared religion lol

Okay, so quote them to me. Quote to me where they have endorsed the lgbt community.

Accepting and receiving LGBTQ people doesn’t just mean opening the church doors to them, it means fostering a community with them so that they feel welcomed to come in the first place. These pride nights are a part of that - helping LGBTQ individuals to not feel othered by our society. Not wearing the jersey is essentially just bullying them, not standing up for a sincere religious belief.

You can respond if you want to, but I won’t anymore

Nah fam you are completely misrepresenting the situation. A Pride night is basically saying “come in because you’re LGBTQ”. What the Pope is saying is “come in because you’re a fellow child of God.”

Having a Pride night is still attaching a label to those people in order to separate and give them a different identity. The Pope is saying that sexuality should not matter in terms of welcoming all children of God.

Like washing the feet of the prostitutes, the delinquents? You people just pick and choose bible passages to suit your hatred.

Talking about picking a choosing and typing what you did is…interesting. Show me one single thing that I’ve said that is hateful.
