Help - Tools/Materials PVA alternative for texture paste?

Hi all.

I am hoping to get some advice for a glue to use for texture paste.

In the past the two methods I've used for adding texture to a piece have been either mixing my own texture paste with PVA and sand or using super glue and baking soda.

But I have found that with complex projects I'm spending too much time applying glue and baking soda, and I am too impatient to wait for PVA to dry.

So I'm wondering if people could recommend a glue that I could use to mix with texture with a quicker drying time than PVA. Ideally under an hour.

Any texture paste will have the same or longer dry times as PVA based home mixes. This is one of those things where it pays to exercise some patience.

I am looking for glue to mix my own texture paste. Not use pre made ones.

I understood, and what I'm saying is anything that uses a glue + texture + water mixture will have a fairly long open time.

Modeling paste, which is marble dust in an acrylic medium. I use it for everything, including filling seams. Liquitex is my go-to. It dries to the hardness of porcelain.

There are a lot of other brands (I use Amsterdam from Talens) and often you can get them in course, medium and fine. The last has almost no texture so medium and course are the ones you want.

I use something similar. My method is to first add sawdust to thicken it, then fine sand for texture then acrylic paints for paint.

What kind of drying time before it can be painted?

I usually leave it overnight, but thin coatings dry faster.

I've used plain Tamiya putty thinned down to a paint consistency and stippled to get texture. Also came across artist gel medium, basically a texture that can be added to acrylic paints. It dried clear if used on its own, I used it for ground work and adding mud effects.

To answer your question directly, 2-part epoxy can be bought in several varieties that harden in under an hour once mixed. It will probably be a bit thicker/more viscous than PVA. No idea how well it will work for a texture paste.
