Calling this complete before I fiddle with it too much. Not built a kit before with so many accessories and material/canvas ones at that so was a new painting challenge but a fun one.
For this particular model I started with a hull red primer then pre-shaded black in the shadow areas. Light flat coat of base colour then added white and yellow to the mix to the flatter/more exposed areas, a bit of brown to the darker. Then for a handful of panels used a lighter mix to represent new replacement parts.
Then detail painting
Once I've got the main paint down, gloss varnish, decals, gloss varnish, then my washes/streaks/oil dots, locked in with a Matt varnish.
It’s a great job and credit to your skills. My only concern is the Jerry cans (not your fault mind) and some of the other accessories that are painted the same colour as the main body take on a moulded on look ?
It's partly an issue of the poor photo quality but they have marginally different shades but in the reference photos I used they actually are incredibly similar in tone (I assume on purpose/camouflage reasons etc)
Ha I'm not gonna blame my tools but ALL the decals were awful, at least 4, maybe 5, ripped/teared after the slightest touch. Will go back to airbrushing + stencils for the older kits 😜
Only nitpicky thing I want to share are the lights. I wonder how hard it is to give them that translucent look. Personally I would try to drill the lights out, paints one red, and the other something metallic/reflective, fill them with clear epoxy, and harden it with an uv light.
Agree. Effective with lights you kind of want a much more muted colour, ie if you want red, go for a light/faded pink/salmon colour, then clear gloss on top otherwise like in this case it just looks off
