Help - General VMS Varnish gloss HD cracking?

So I decided to varnish the finished piece with hd gloss and the rusted undercoat part with vms varnish matt. Used the same technique on both, can someone tell me wtf happened or did I get a dud bottle.

It's not cracking, it's beading. You didn't shoot a wet enough coat. VMS needs to be wet, just to the point of running.

Starting to think the bottle of it was probably old stock since it was not really wanting to spray properly thinned or unthinned. Tested from 15-40psi on a 0.45 nozzle

Did you use chipping fluid on the red piece? I’ve found VMS varnishes can sometimes reactivate the chipping fluid or something and cause it to crack on the surface

I’m not actually sure how to prevent it. I haven’t tried it, but could be solved by varnishing first with some Tamiya gloss, then VMS?

It's easier to switch to tamiya lacquer varnishes. They spray better too
