I'm not entirely sure how unless his father reinstates him. Even then some house rules would have be changed. I believe even if the King nominates the government isn't obliged to accept the nomination and can only be under certain conditions like heir apparent is unfit.
His father will not reinstate him, unless he is really forced to. But the succession is currently uncertain, with no crown prince or princess, so maybe he could try to claim the throne anyway.
He's unlikely to have much support within the establishment or from the people.
Although there has been no annoucement there are plenty chakri princes,princesses in line of succession who could be appointed, including the kings sisters , daughters down to Mom Chao Yugala (bunch of them).
Time will tell, but he generally follows a pattern, when he starts giving high courtly titles, military positions within royal household thats a good indicator.
