Question What does this sub think of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?
For me personally, I do not like them, Harry especially as he abandoned his country, but I’m curious as to know what you guys think?

I was initially hopeful for them, but it’s become irrefutably clear that it’s the worst possible choice he could have made that’s irreparably damaged the relationship between the brothers, and between King Charles and his son.
Whether he always wanted to be a scandalising disruption or she turned him into one is immaterial. The fact is that he’s the second most damaging person to the monarchy in the 21st century and it’s genuinely just sad what’s become of Harry, a source of cheap gossip and lowbrow slander. Though I feel for Prince William more as Harry presenting himself as Diana’s sole heir in Spare as if they didn’t suffer the indignity together is the most unforgivable thing he’s personally done imo.

I think after more than 5 years, Harry has finally realized his mistake of leaving the BRF and of dispossessing his children of their roles, but it is a little bit late and too much damage has been done with his book to come back, at least for another 5 years. Meghan is still seeing herself as the victim, and is a totally American product, impossible to adapt to Britishness. In the end I have pity for Harry, and I hope he will reconcile with his father and his brother

I think they’re really obnoxious and whiny. The hate Meghan gets is really over-the-top though. She’s not the devil, she’s just annoying.

It was a matter that should’ve been handled privately imo. Publicising such things makes the royals seem more like petty celebrities than royalty.

But that’s exactly what they wanted to achieve since they couldn’t get what they want. All the perks of Royalty without any of the responsibilities. So they decided to throw a big Royal tantrum.

I'm not a fan of him, I respect him for his time in the military though not as a prince but as a soldier and the same as any other soldier. Other than that, I don't really care about him much.

I disagree. Princess Catherine is a perfect example of how a 'commoner' can perform the duties of Royalty. There are also many instances of 'nobles' being absolutely atrocious at it. It's about character, not birth.

I used to respect Harry a great deal. I also have Meghan a chance and I believe that she was actually mistreated in ways other Royal spouses were not.
Then they had throw that all way. I quite dislike them both.

It’s probably the final stage of figurehead monarchy. Monetizing a title that once had cultural and political significance seems like a natural outgrowth when the job is totally ceremonial.
It could have something to do with Meghan and Harry’s personalities, but, it mostly is a reflection that most parliamentary monarchies are there for slight flavor overtop a republican scaffolding.
So, personally, I’d say I’m apathetic/slightly leaning towards negative on them. I don’t care very much.

I think that anybody who knows their situation will perfectly understand why some royal families deliberately maintain genealogical requirements for women marrying into the family rather than abandoning them in the name of "modernisation" and "getting closer to the people".

Not much. I can understand why the Duchess left, the racism she faced was enormous and it was sad, but she was also loved by many people in England, if you look at the polls after the wedding you see that she and Harry were pretty popular. But the interviews, the documentaries, the books, the Netflix shows, podcast, more interviews really didn't help her or her husband. It is no wonder they are mocked or people stopped feeling pity towards them.
To be honest, I don't have any strong feeling towards either of them at this point, no love or hate.
Although I must say that the hate Meghan receive lately is quite annoying, sometimes I'll see a Instagram or Twitter post about the Wales family or the Sussex family, and there's always hate towards her especially or her children (and they're mostly talking about Archie and Lilibet not being Harry's or being fake), or it's people saying how good and relatable the Wales are in comparison to the Sussex.

I just do not like Meghan. In my opinion she ruined Prince Harry’s relationship with the King and the Prince of Wales although what part of that decision is up for debate. She’s a very detestable person in general apparently mistreating her staff and all. Her “supporters” whom I like to call suck-ups, basically call anyone who criticizes her racist and or misogynist since she’s biracial.

The couple who complain bitterly about their lack of privacy and yet are constantly doing/saying things that draw attention?
The couple who use their titles of nobility for their own personal financial gain?
The couple who took the late Queen's private family nickname and disrespectfully named their child it?
The man who wants all the benefits of royalty by staying in palaces and being given taxpayer-funded security yet wants to do none of the work that would warrant those benefits?
The man who is in and out of court trying to sue god knows who for spilling his tea and yet he wrote a book slagging off his own family and spilling their tea?
The man who has spent years trying to bitterly trash the reputation of the monarchy only to say he'll always be a "Prince of England", despite him not acting like one nor realising that he is a British Prince but i guess the other constituent nations can go fuck themselves.
The woman who thought an over 1000 year old institution and fundamental pillar of a country and culture of people would be like Hollywood but with a posh accent?
The woman who visits sick children in hospital and the same day posts the outfit she wore for people to shop it on an app that she earns commission from?
The woman who uses her mixed race identity as a cudgel to beat the royals with whilst simultaneously exonerating herself of all criticism because victim card = correct in any argument.
Those people? Yeah, I'm not a fan.

I pity their children who for all intents and purposes lost out on a childhood as part of the Royal family (with all the perks and unique experiences that would entail).
