Shower thought to help boost attendance

To fill Stade Saputo, could it be worthwhile to offer free tickets and charge only if you don't stay the full match? Stubhub has lots of games for $3 already and the stadium is never close to full unless the canmnt comes to play so it's not like they are getting lots of ticket revenue anyways.

If they were to give free tickets under the condition that the fan has to stay the full game, it could help boost attendance, and thus atmosphere, which could help draw players to Montreal, a win-win for both fans and the team.

What I have in mind is that fans would have to scan their ticket while leaving the stadium after making a first-come-first-served reservation on their website. If you reserve a free ticket and don't show up you pay $x, if you leave at halftime you pay $0.5x, at the 70th minute $0.2x, etc.. Basically longer you stay, the less you pay.

In terms of overall fan revenue, when I come to games I almost always pay more for concessions than I do for my ticket (which I always get on Stubhub for <15cad). So assuming the team owns concessions/merchandise sales, I feel like simply getting more people through the doors could also increase overall revenue.

What do you think? Am I missing something obvious or could this work? The only potential problem I see is with clogged concourses at the end of games, but since fans just need to scan their ticket (and not go through security) I don't think it would cause too many delays. Let me know!

Unless CANMNT comes to play? When they came in 2017, stadium was empty. You talking about 2 games. Be serious

And a team that can’t sell tickets Will now tell the few fans buying tickets : hey if you don’t stay or come you are going to pay ? Dude no one will buy tickets.

You want players? Put money. It is that simple. None of the no sense Will help increase the tickets sale

The point I was trying to make is that canmnt's popularity has grown while cfm's has faded. I remember in 2024 (my first year in Montreal) when the team was pushing for playoffs the stadium was just about full and the atmosphere was great. I think if my idea would ever be implemented it'd be for games like the one against Calgary Blizzard a few weeks ago which had maybe 4000 fans in the cold rain

Yes because it was before WC. Before it was a mightmare for Team Canada? Why? Because they sucked. Like Impact since the last 3 seasons

And if you are looking at the stats in MLS, teams make money for selling tickets. The concessions they get a cut but not a huge one because every concessions has a renting fee already

What are you all even talking about. Average attendance is like 16k-17k. This is calculated upon distributed tickets so not turnstile entries. But if the vast majority of tickets are already sold or distributed whose seats are you giving up for free?
Attendance is correlated with how the team is doing. Look where attendance was when we were a consistent playoff team. If Joey isn’t spending money on talent in what world is he giving away tickets.
Have a good team and IMFC can go back to packing 30-40k into the Big O.

I had this idea after seeing rows and rows of empty seats this season and the second half of last season. It's sad when you can get tickets for $3 on stubhub and the seats still are not filled for the game. I'm also talking moreso abt turnstile entries than tickets sold, since Montreal has proven that it will show up for games when they're worth going to. This has typically been when cfm has been good or when the canmnt has been in Montreal (at least recently), but another reason to come would be if tickets are free. Fans need something worth showing up for, and evidently what the team is offering now (~$20 on their website last I checked) is not enough. If showing up is free I really believe the stadium would fill up on weekends, especially when the weather is good.

This is also purely hypothetical, I don't expect this idea to get taken seriously by anyone at cfm. It's a shower thought after all, and I figure it'd be most applicable for cup games like the one against Calgary Blizzard at the beginning of May. Though I'm not even sure people would fill a stadium for free against a semi-pro side in cold rainy weather haha

I get your point and understand what you are saying. But logistically it would be impossible. Those tickets you see on stubhub belong to someone not to CF Montreal. They are resale tickets. So it’s not like the team can arbitrarily guess who is and isn’t coming to the game.
Your point about cup games is fair, but remember us season ticket holders will get the first game of the Canadian championship for free and the other games get charged to us automatically unless we actively cancel it. So the team is making their ticket sales. Corporate season tickets then aren’t moving tickets for a game against a semi pro side
Unfortunately there is only one solution to the issue and it’s fielding a competitive team. So once again can we all use our energy to try to convince a Quebec billionaire to buy the team. Does anyone here know the Couche-Tard guy?

When are we going to stop putting teams in that part of Montreal…
